Martin Scorsese And Leonardo DiCaprio Are Re-Teaming For A Presidential Biopic

Leonardo DiCaprio in The Wolf of Wall Street

Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio have proved several times now they they are a director/actor duo to be reckoned with. First working together on Gangs of New York and later reuniting for The Aviator, The Departed, Shutter Island and The Wolf of Wall Street, all the movies these men have worked together on so far have gone on to earn numerous accolades. Scorsese and DiCaprio are already primed to collaborate again on several projects in the coming years, and now we can add one more project to the list, as it's been announced that they'll reunite for a biopic about the 26th President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt.

Leonardo DiCaprio has spent years trying to get a Theodore Roosevelt biopic off the ground, but to no avail. Fortunately for the actor, he's finally moving forward on this project with the help of Scorsese and Paramount Pictures. Along with DiCaprio playing Roosevelt and Scorsese helming the picture, both men are also attached as producers. As for the other talent currently on board, Deadline reports that Scott Bloom will write the script, and the biopic's other producers include Jennifer Davisson from Appian Way, Emma Koskoff from Sikelia and Chuck Pacheco.

Theodore Roosevelt

Even before he became President of the United States in 1901 following the assassination of William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt led an eventful life, from serving as the New York City Police Commissioner to leading the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. He remains the youngest U.S. president, taking office at age 42 after bringing his tenure as Vice President only six months before McKinley died. Serving as President from 1901 to 1909, Roosevelt's most heralded accomplishments arguably revolved around conservation, which included creating five national parks and establishing 150 national forests. It's this particular area that Leonardo DiCaprio has been interested in exploring for the biopic, which isn't shocking considering the actor's own environmental activism.

What's unclear at the moment is if this Theodore Roosevelt biopic will be Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio's next movie together or if it will come later down the line. The two men are already planning to team up on The Devil in the White City and Killers of The Flower Moon, both adapted from popular books. So even though this Roosevelt biopic is now in development, it may be a while until we see DiCaprio on the big screen sporting the mustache and talking about the merits of speaking softly while carrying a big stick.
