The Hellboy Reboot Just Hired Three New Actors

Alistair Petrie Rogue One

There's an all-new Hellboy currently on the way and the Neil Marshall-directed reboot has been busy building out its cast of paranormal researchers. Stranger Things' David Harbour is taking over as the titular Hellboy, while Milla Jovovich is all set to tackle the reboot's villain, the Blood Queen. The supporting cast is rounded out by Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Penelope Mitchell. Now, three new actors have joined the cast of Hellboy as new characters meant to help expand the mythology of the film. Alistair Petrie, Sophie Okonedo, and Brian Gleeson are the latest to join Hellboy.

In the new Hellboy, the titular red demon and his team of paranormal researchers at the BPRD will square off against a medieval sorceress dedicated to destroying humankind. It sounds like England will be an important setting for the film. According to Deadline, Alistair Petrie is playing a character named Lord Adam Glaren. Glaren is a high-ranking member of the Osiris Club, an ancient English club dedicated to solving supernatural mysteries. Alistair Petrie is a veteran film and TV actor, having appeared in a number of projects over the years. He can be seen in recent films like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Victor Frankenstein, and Rush. He also appeared in the TV mini-series The Night Manager, starring Tom Hiddleston.

Sophie Okonedo Brian Gleeson

Joining Alistair Petrie in the cast are Sophie Okonedo and Brian Gleeson. Okonedo has several film and television appearances under her belt, having starred in films like After Earth, Hotel Rwanda, and Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. In Hellboy, she will play a character named Lady Hatton, a resident seer at the Osiris Club.

Brian Gleeson's character is simply described as being a wizard, but you no doubt recognize his name: Merlin. Whether it's THE Merlin or not is unclear but it seems like a pretty safe bet that Arthurian legend has a role to play in Hellboy. Gleeson is known for roles in a number of films, many of which are recent blockbusters like Assassin's Creed and Snow White and the Huntsman. He also appeared in mother!, one of the most divisive movies of the year. Gleeson's father is actor Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges, Braveheart) and he's the younger brother of Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina, Star Wars: The Force Awakens).

There is no release date yet announced for Hellboy, but the reboot is expected to hit theaters sometime in 2018 and recently started production. It's also promising plenty of practical effects, which should be something to look forward to.
