Baby Driver's Honest Trailer Rips Into The Movie's Musical Choices

In a theatrical landscape that's peppered with sequels, remakes, reboots and adaptations of existing intellectual property, Edgar Wright's Baby Driver was one of 2017's most successful movies based off an entirely original idea. Having bounced around in his head for two decades, Wright was finally able to make Baby Driver a reality following his exit from Ant-Man, and the result was quite impressive, as the movie received a lot of positive reviews and collected over $226 million worldwide, making it Wright's most commercially successful movie yet. That being said, Baby Driver isn't free from receiving criticism, and the folks over at Honest Trailers have targeted it for some of its creative choices, particularly concerning music.

Along with boasting exciting car chases, Baby Driver is memorable for its soundtrack, with many of the songs coming straight from one of Baby's iPods. In-universe, listening to songs help Ansel Elgort's Baby overcome his tinnitus, but for the audience, the music simply helps the movie feel more energetic. But as this Honest Trailer points out, the songs vary on the spectrum between being too obscure for Guardians of the Galaxy's Awesome Mix to being too mainstream for Quentin Tarantino. Baby Driver also had the eponymous character using a recording studio in his apartment that is so adorkable that it could date New Girl star Zooey Deschanel. Baby Driver isn't a musical in the traditional sense, but the music definitely played an important role in making the movie flow well. Whether you're listening to these songs while committing a robbery or driving the minivan to soccer practice, they're sure to add a spring to your step.

But that was just one of the elements from Baby Driver that this Honest Trailer poked fun at. Other material for comedic fodder included Baby failing failing to keep a low profile, his "white boy dancing," his weirdly Oedipal relationship with Lily James' Debora and the fact that the movie never actually features someone driving a single baby. Oh, and lest you forget, Baby Driver was the last movie Kevin Spacey starred in before the sexual abuse allegations directed towards him were made public. So just like All the Money in the World did, the Baby Driver Honest Trailer replaced Spacey with Christopher Plummer (well, his face anyway), and it actually works well.

Honest Trailer digs aside, Baby Driver was definitely one of 2017's more enjoyable movies, and you can watch it in the comfort of your own home on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD. Baby Driver 2 is also in the works, though it won't necessarily be the next movie that Edgar Wright tackles.
