Is Jeremy Renner Teasing The Avengers 4 Trailer?

When will we see the Avengers 4 trailer? That question has been looming over Marvel fans for quite some time. With November come and gone, it's become more of a distinct possibility that we may not get to see it before we ring in the new year.

Through his typical Instagram hashtag tease, Jeremy Renner is maybe hinting to fans with this selfie. Then again, maybe we're grasping at straws here, waiting for something, anything about the upcoming Avengers film. Take a look:

According to the actor's cryptic update, it looks like he is doing promotional work for Marvel, but there are tons of possibilities on what exactly that means for Jeremy Renner. We of course hope it's for the yet-to-be-titled Avengers 4 because that's the "amazing day" we're hoping for.

We could see Marvel assembling the cast for a short teaser for the film to introduce the trailer to audiences ... maybe in theaters when Mary Poppins Returns comes out this month? This is a highly optimistic theory, but the Avengers 4 filmmakers have been going back and forth about the release of Avengers 4 trailer, making us a whole lot of confused.

Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige originally brought a bit of hope last month with a comment saying fans would get a trailer for Avengers 4 before the end of 2018. However, film co-director Joe Russo later said that we "may or may not see it before the calendar turns 2019," putting us back to square one as far as a trailer drop goes.

Jeremy Renner also references Avengers: Infinity War in his post, but his Hawkeye didn't play a role in Infinity War, so his tease would more likely be about the upcoming installment. It's also important to note that the actor isn't dressed up in character, so the promotion he is doing is as himself, but it definitely has to be for Marvel. Another angle is the promotion could be a "thank you" video of some sort for Marvel fans for hanging in there and showing up for the summer blockbuster that has hit over $2 billion worldwide at the box office.

Since the record-breaking trailer for Avengers: Infinity War was released on November 29 of last year, many speculated that the tradition would continue with this Avengers film. Disney instead took the holidays to start promoting Toy Story 4 and The Lion King remake, as they each received teaser trailers to go with the release of Ralph Breaks the Internet. The last hope for 2018 is during the holiday season, or Marvel Studios might also wait to drop it during the Super Bowl.

Whether this is a trailer tease or not is up to interpretation, and will only be known in time, but it's nice to see Jeremy Renner smiling and excited to promote something Avengers related. It's yet to be known what role Hawkeye will play in Avengers 4, but we know he will play a role in the events following Thanos' deadly snap. Avengers 4 is currently scheduled for release in theaters on May 3, 2019. Here's what else is ahead in 2019.
