John Wick 3 Will Have The Highest Death Count Yet

Keanu Reeves, John Wick

The bullets are thinkin' they're back too. Keanu Reeves is returning for John Wick: Chapter 3 (are we ditching the Parabellum?) this May 2019. Considering Chapter 2 ended with John being hunted by just about every assassin in creation, with a $14 million global contract out on his head, it's not surprising that John Wick 3 is meant to have the highest death count of the film series to date.

After all, Keanu Reeves had said the title included the word Parabellum, which means "Prepare for war."

Chad Stahelski directed both previous films (with help from David Leitch on the first one), and he told Entertainment Weekly he thinks the death count of Chapter 3 will "land slightly north" of the previous film's kills. Chapter 2 definitely took that count up a notch from Chapter 1, so that would make Chapter 3 the deadliest yet.

A kill count for Chapter 2 was documented in a fancy infographic. According to Polygon, John Wick killed 128 people in Chapter 2, which is a jump from the 84 of the first movie. But the accuracy of the shots went down from 86 percent accurate in the first film to 80 percent in the second one. (You'd think assassins would be a bit more accurate, but if they actually did kill John Wick they'd also kill the franchise.)

John Wick: Chapter 3 has John on the run -- and also on a horse -- but it sounds like he might get some help from Halle Berry's new character, Sofia. She and John apparently have a past together. And she also has two dogs of her own, who are part of the story.

Many of the usual suspects will be returning for John Wick 3 -- including Ian McShane as Winston, Laurence Fishburne as The Bowery King, Lance Reddick as Charon, and Ruby Rose as Ares. (But not Common, for some reason.)

New characters, besides Halle Berry's Sofia, include Asia Kate Dillon as a member of the High Table called The Adjudicator. And Anjelica Huston will be arriving as The Director of the High Table. Chad Stahelski told EW she plays someone who was responsible for John Wick's upbringing and his protection. He added that this film will be something of an origin story for John Wick.

Chad Stahelski also said he'd be willing to go for a John Wick 4 or beyond, if that's what the fans want. Don't forget that there's also The Continental TV series in the works, so this franchise isn't dying anytime soon.

Here's more of what we know about John Wick: Chapter 3 so far. The movie is scheduled to open May 17, 2019, smack dab in the middle of that insanely busy spring 2019 cinema season.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
