New Captain Marvel Clip Shows Carol Danvers Sparring With Jude Law

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been on a serious hot streak over the last few years, as Phase Three has brought an endless supply of critical and box office success stories. There are two more movies left before the next step of the MCU, starting with Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden's highly anticipated origin story Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios has been keeping its cards close to the chest (as usual), but footage from Captain Marvel has been slowly revealed ahead of the film's release. And with just weeks left before it finally hits theaters, even Jude Law's mysterious character is getting some sneak peek footage.

Despite Captain Marvel's high stakes and outstanding cast, the biggest mystery surrounding the upcoming blockbuster has been Jude Law's character. Marvel Studios has yet to confirm the character's identity, although various rumors and reports have indicated he would be either Mar-Vell or Yon-Rogg. A new clip from Captain Marvel has now arrived, showing the mysterious entity training Carol Danvers. Check it out.

March 8th can't come by soon enough. This new clip teases the relationship between Carol Danvers and her mysterious mentor, while still being sure to not mention Jude Law's character by name. That mystery likely won't be officially solved until the film arrives in theaters to further expand the behemoth Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This clip from Entertainment Access looks like its set in some Kree training facility. Extras are seen sparring alongside Carol Danvers and Jude Law's character, although it seems that the stakes are a bit higher for that dynamic duo. Carol is trying to grapple with the confusion of her fractured memory and mysterious past, all while Jude Law encourages her to let go of it all. He says that doubt makes warriors vulnerable, and also encourages her to get a better handle on her emotions and massively powerful abilities.

After briefly going Iron Fist-ey, Captain Marvel is ultimately able to suppress her strength, and continue the training with her mentor. It's one of the many scenes that will be set outside of Earth, as Carol Danvers becomes a more powerful member of the Kree army, and Starforce. She'll also be getting some guidance from Anette Bening's Supreme Intelligence, who carries the history of the Kree people with her. Bening's character was another mysterious presence in Captain Marvel, although now even that character has been properly introduced ahead of the film's release. As for Jude Law, we're not quite as lucky.

It's unclear what makes Jude Law's Captain Marvel character so different from the rest of the cast, but both the actor and Marvel Studios have been keeping mum about his name and greater purpose within the story. If Law is indeed playing Yon-Rogg or Mar-Vell, keeping quiet may be an attempt to keep the movie's plot unexpected. For instance, Yon-Rogg is a well known foe of Captain Marvel, while Jude Law has been teased to be the character's mentor. If the tables eventually turn, perhaps Marvel Studios wanted that narrative to be as powerful as possible. As such, the name is being kept under wraps.

All will be revealed when Captain Marvel arrives in theaters on March 8th. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
