Simon Pegg Shows Off Shocking Body Transformation For New Role

It isn't too uncommon for actors to go through physical transformations for roles. Superhero actors usually have to get buff, and Christian Bale's body is basically silly putty by this point. An actor you wouldn't expect to get shredded, though, is Simon Pegg, but that's just what the 49-year-old British comedian did for his latest movie. Check out this picture of a shirtless Pegg showing off his weight loss and muscle gain for the film Inheritance.

Talk about Shaun of the Shredded, am I right?

Simon Pegg is best known for comedy films like Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, and The World's End, but the actor has become a staple supporting player in the Star Trek and Mission: Impossible franchises. Tom Cruise handles most of the action in the M:I films, but maybe Pegg can give him a run for his money in the next movie.

Simon Pegg has undergone some serious training for his latest movie, Inheritance. Pegg's trainer Nick Lower shared the pics of Pegg's hard work on social media. The transformation took six months and Pegg lost a whopping 19 pounds and 4% body fat. Apparently, the role called for a"very lean" body and a specific body shape and look, Lower wrote on Twitter. Pegg's account re-shared the transformation photo, and added another item to the "required" list: "Also occasional mild grumpiness..."

The role in question is for the film Inheritance, which explores what happens when the patriarch of a wealthy and powerful family suddenly passes away, leaving his wife and daughter with a shocking secret inheritance that threatens to unravel and destroy their lives. It's unclear what specific part Simon Pegg is playing, and why he needed to be in such lean shape, but I'm sure all of that will be revealed shortly.

The rest of the cast of Inheritance includes Lily Collins, Connie Nielsen, and Chace Crawford. The film is directed by Vaughn Stein with a screenplay written by Matthew Kennedy.

Simon Pegg officially joins the club of actors who have transformed their bodies in one way or another to take on a specific role. Christian Bale is perhaps the most famous for doing this. In 2004, Bale lost 63 pounds for the role of Trevor Reznik in The Machinist, and recently acquired one hell of a gut to play Dick Cheney in the Oscar-nominated Vice.

Additionally, pretty much every actor who plays a superhero gets jacked. The most recent example would be Brie Larson for Captain Marvel. She can push a 5000 pound jeep, among a number of other impressive feats.

But don't try this at home, kids. Any kind of extreme physical transformation like Simon Pegg's should only be done with the guidance of a trainer and medical/health professionals. Or, better yet, not at all -- unless you are also making a movie.

Inheritance doesn't have a release date yet, but stick with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated on new information as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, there are plenty of other movies worthy of your attention that are arriving in theaters sooner than you think. You can find all of those films in out handy 2019 movie release guide.
