The return of the Fast and Furious franchise is back full speed ahead with the release of F9, which is already crushing it worldwide ahead of its first weekend at the domestic box office. With the long saga now surpassing its 20-year anniversary, there’s still more to be seen in the form of Fast and the Furious 10, which will be split into two films. And according to Vin Diesel he’s getting back in the driver’s seat soon.

The movie expected to see Justin Lin helming the final two films already has a shooting date. Here’s what Vin Diesel said about how and when he’ll return to Dominic Toretto after F9:

I’m doing Fast 10, Part One and Part Two, the finale of the saga, in January.

Sounds like a great way to start 2022! Vin Diesel spilled the details to Regal while promoting the latest installment in the Fast and the Furious saga. Before COVID-19 delays, Fast and the Furious 10 was going to come out in April of 2021, but plans have clearly changed. The movie was previously removed from Universal’s schedule – don’t worry though, it’s definitely still coming.

The finale of Fast and Furious will be split into two movies because there is reportedly ‘much ground to cover,’ per Vin Diesel. The movies will be globetrotting adventures and seeks to have the scope similar to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame when Disney capped off over a decade of Marvel storytelling. Even if the two-part movies speak big bang for the franchise, that’s not to say Fast and Furious will be over forever. Vin Diesel recently said this about Dom returning for another installment past his upcoming Fast movies:

I will say that there is nothing that is off the table.

What remains to be seen is whether Dwayne “The Rock'' Johnson and Jason Statham’s Hobbs and Shaw return for Fast and Furious 10. Of course there was a bit of drama within the franchise between the main Fast franchise and its spinoff. It is expected that the last two parts of the franchise will have a packed cast, much like the current installment.

Based on the shooting schedule for Fast and Furious 10 Vin Diesel has revealed, I’d imagine the next movie after F9 won’t come until the spring or summer of 2023. Since the movies are filming back to back, perhaps the final installment will hit theaters a year later in 2024.

F9 sees the return of Justin Lin as director for the first time since 2013’s Fast & Furious 6 along with #JusticeForHan with Sung Kang reprising his beloved role. As many of us head into F9 this weekend, it’s nice to know there’s already more plans for the story to continue with at least two more films.
