The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the home of countless comic book characters, but a few stand out as fan favorites. Chief among them are the Guardians of the Galaxy, including Karen Gillan’s blue meanie Nebula. And after recently hyping the mysterious Guardians 3 movie, she’s now teasing Nebula’s role in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Nebula has had one of the most interesting arcs in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, going from antagonist to ally and Avenger. Fans are eager to see how the Guardians of the Galaxy factor into Taika Waititi’s Thor: Love and Thunder, and Karen is teasing some A+ new footage of Nebula. As the Jumanji actress put it,

And then Taika really brought out the bonkers side. I think everyone is just really, really funny and bonkers and wild. … I don’t know if it’s personal [levity]. Like I don’t think she's finding herself funny or being funny, but in her seriousness I think we will find her funny, and just the pure aggression that we’ve tapped into.

Sign me up. Nebula is known for being an ultra serious character, which sometimes leads to unexpected comedy as she deals with some of the more colorful characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And it looks like Taika Waititi and Karen Gillan really leaned into that aspect of the character for her appearance in Thor: Love and Thunder.

Karen Gillan’s comments to Collider seemingly show how much fun she had while filming Thor: Love and Thunder down under. While the Guardians of the Galaxy aren’t expected to have all that much screen time in the upcoming Chris Hemsworth movie, clearly director Taika Waititi knew just what to do with the motley crew of heroes. And that definitely includes Nebula.

While the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie featured Nebula as an antagonist, Taika Waititi started to lighten up the character in Vol. 2. This continued in Avengers: Endgame, as she fostered positive relationships with Iron Man, Rocket, and War Machine. Clearly the five-year time jump changed Karen Gillan’s character, so it should be interesting to see how the new versions of the character functions in future installments.

Aside from Thor: Love and Thunder, the Guardians of the Galaxy are getting a number of future appearances in the MCU. Obviously there’s Guardians 3, but James Gunn will also work on a Holiday Special and animated Groot shorts. We’ll just have to wait and see how Nebula factors in.

Thor: Love and Thunder is currently expected to arrive in theaters on May 6th, 2022. In the meantime, check out the 2021 movie release dates to plan your next movie experience.
