The ensemble cast of Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction is easily one of the most iconic of the modern era. From the comeback kid named John Travolta, to the long hair-sporting Eric Stoltz, every single person in the movie is incredibly memorable and puts their own personal stamp on the material. But what if the cast were completely different? Well, now we have Tarantino's original cast wishlist to tell us what could have been:
This fantastic piece of cinematic history was posted by a Reddit user named PCchongor - and while not all of the amazing characters from Pulp Fiction are listed here, it gives us a wonderful glimpse into Quentin Tarantino's mind. For example, it appears that he really would have been happy casting Gary Oldman in any of the movie's roles - although learning that makes it kind of weird that the two men have never managed to work together.
On that note, though, it's actually great to look at this list and notice the number of people who did go on to work with Tarantino on one of his films. Jennifer Jason Leigh may have missed out on playing either Honey Bunny or Jody, but this year she will be seen as the female lead in The Hateful Eight. And then there's the trio of Michael Keaton, Pam Grier, and Bridget Fonda - all of whom wound up going on to star in the writer/director's Pulp Fiction follow-up, Jackie Brown.
But what if some of Quentin Tarantino's wishes, as seen on this paper, had been granted? Scheduling conflicts wound up taking Michael Madsen away from Pulp Fiction, but had he taken the role it would have been interesting to see the Vega Brothers become twins. I also find myself fascinated by the idea of John Cusack playing Lance. I find myself hoping that somebody in the future can try and get Cusack on video doing a line reading as the long-haired, heroin dealing scumbag.
Also, if you look closely enough at the top right corner, you will see that Warren Beatty would have been Tarantino's top selection to play The Wolf had Harvey Keitel been unavailable. Another perfect bit of casting for our imaginations.
Looking at this list, are there any characters that you think should have been played by one of Tarantino's other choices? Or do you think that the cast is perfect as is? Which of the many possibilities fascinates you the most? Hit the comments section with your thoughts!
