After a few months of reports that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were looking into having a third child via surrogate, it's now being reported that the woman they hired is actually pregnant.
A new report from TMZ is saying that the Kardashian West clan will complete its current expansion during the winter, as the baby is expected in late January. The child will join big sister North, 4, and older brother Saint, 21 months, when he or she is finally welcomed into the world and the Kardashian, West and Jenner families.
News that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West were officially looking for a surrogate in order to expand their young family began in earnest in late June. Kardashian has talked many times on Keeping Up with the Kardashians about wanting to continue to add to her family and even spoke often of her willingness to use a surrogate to make that happen. While pregnant with North, she developed both early-onset preeclampsia and placenta accreta, which (along with other symptoms) caused extreme swelling in her face and body, and led to her delivering prematurely at only 34 weeks.
Unfortunately, her pregnancy with Saint was also a difficult one, and she endured the same symptoms and conditions in that case, as well. After Saint's birth, Kardashian was forced to have surgery to repair a hole in her uterus. Ultimately, her doctors told her that she would be unable to carry another child, as the pregnancy would likely be life threatening.
Luckily, the couple, who've been married since May 2014, have had the full support of her large extended family in their dream of growing their family and the search for a surrogate. When Kardashian revealed that she was considering surrogacy, both her mother, Kris Jenner, and sisters, Khloe and Kourtney, told her they'd be willing to carry a third child for her if it were deemed possible. And, while it looks like that didn't work out for whatever reason, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have still been able to add to their family.
As is frequent in cases where people want to use surrogates, Kardashian and West reportedly hired a surrogacy agency to help them find and choose the perfect woman to carry their newest child. According to TMZ, the surrogate is prohibited from doing things that may hurt the unborn child, such as using hot tubs or hair dye, eating raw fish, drinking, smoking or doing drugs, and she will get $45,000 for carrying and delivering their baby.
More and more celebrities are coming out about their use of surrogates to help them complete their families, so it's hardly an unusual position that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West find themselves in. It's certainly good to see another family-planning success story.
