ABBA Is Putting Out New Music, So Here We Go Again
2018 will be a huge year for ABBA. In addition to the upcoming release of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, which will play an assortment of classic tunes from the group like the first movie, the band itself revealed that new music is on the way. The Swedish pop band unveiled on their social media accounts that they're finally moving forward with their first original music in over 35 years. Prepare to be dancing queens yet again. That thunderous sound you've been hearing all morning is millions of fans all around the world yelling, "Gimmie! Gimme! Gimme!" Here's the statement ABBA released today.
As the post confirms, ABBA decided to make some new jams together after they were inspired by their upcoming Abbatars tour, which will see computer generated avatars of the Swedish band performing on stages all around the world. The tour is expected to commence in 2019 or 2020. As they're putting the show together now, they felt that spark that once ignited between them. We have a couple more songs coming, and as the statement notes, there are already two new songs in the can from ABBA. It won't be too long before eager fans will get a taste of what the reunion produced.
Two new songs might not sound like a lot for a recently-reunited band, but it's certainly welcomed. And who knows? Maybe this is just the beginning of the next chapter in ABBA's legacy. If the response is vocal enough, they might feel compelled to put together a whole new album. Especially if Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again becomes another monster hit like the original movie, based on the equally beloved stage musical sensation of the same name.
ABBA, which is composed of Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (the band's name is based on the first letter of their names), called it quits in 1982. The multitude of fans have clamored for a reunion, but to no avail. They were somewhat banded back together in 2016 when they helped open an eatery in Stockholm based on their musical. But these new songs will be their first official return in decades. It'll be heavily anticipated, to say the least.
Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! sways into theaters on July 20th.
