Kylie Jenner may be known for being a member of the Kardashian-Jenner family, but she’s definitely carved out a lane for herself. Since rising to prominence through her brood’s reality TV series, she’s since founded a massively successful cosmetics company and expanded her footprint within film and TV. All in all, Jenner has achieved a level of fame that only a select group of people manage to reach. And, interestingly enough, she recently explained how her daughter, Stormi, reminds her of the notoriety she currently has.
At present, Jenner is a proud mom to two children, as she shares both Stormi (8) and Aire (4) with her former boyfriend, Travis Scott. The Kardashian-Jenner faithful may remember that there was a lot of buzz when Kylie gave birth to her uniquely named daughter. It’s hard to believe Stormi is already nearing her double digits. That isn’t lost on Kylie, as she explained the significance of her little girl reaching her 9th birthday next year while speaking to rapper Kid Cudi on the first episode of his Big Bro podcast about how she handles fame:
I dunno if there’s a perfect recipe to that…. I’m really proud of myself, I think I’ve done a good job, especially being – we started the show when I was nine years old. And I look at my daughter and she’s eight, and I’m like, ‘Oh my god, you were like a year, in a year you’ll be like the age I was when I was so exposed to this.’
Jenner’s comments seem to indicate that she’s feeling some akin to a full-circle moment, since Stormi is nearing the age she was when she herself essentially became a public figure. I can completely understand why that would be a somewhat surreal inevitability for Jenner. Also, I could imagine that some longtime fans may even feel a bit old when considering that Jenner herself is now the mother of a child who’s nearly the age she was when Keeping Up with the Kardashians premiered.

The media landscape was also a lot different at that time, and Kylie Jenner spoke to that point as well during her conversation with longtime friend Kid Cudi:

KUWTK (which resulted in solid paychecks for its stars) hit the small screen back in 2007 on E!, ushering in a new era of reality TV and, in many ways, the 20-season show’s impact on pop culture can still be felt today. The media landscape was also a lot different at that time, and Kylie Jenner spoke to that point as well during her conversation with longtime friend Kid Cudi:
It was different times then. There was no Instagram — but yeah, like I think just protecting the things I feel need protection or just like parts of my personality or, I dunno…. my relationships. I just try to just protect myself, and I have really thick skin, I think. Which is much needed. I kind of know if there’s a bad story or something, it will come and go. I have my family, I have my kids that I go home to that love me so much and have no idea what’s going on in this world. They definitely keep me grounded.
Considering Jenner’s reality, I can understand her desire to remain grounded. She currently runs Kylie Cosmetics, and it was through the success of that brand that she reached billionaire status at the age of 21. Also, as her mother, Kris Jenner, recently revealed, Kylie used about all of her TV money to finance her company. On that note, Kylie also remains a fixture on TV, thanks to her family’s latest show, The Kardashians. She’s also dipping her toes into the realm of acting, having made her debut in Charli XCX’s The Moment.

Overall, Kylie Jenner has come a long way from being the rambunctious little girl viewers were introduced to via KUWTK nearly two decades ago. It was apparently a complex journey, based on the comments she shared while talking to Cudi, but it seems she’s grown from it. Also, I wouldn’t be surprised if Jenner imparted a lot of that wisdom upon Stormi in the years to come. In the meantime, check out The Kardashians using a Hulu subscription.
