Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. May Introduce A New Romance Soon

Romance on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is a tricky thing. It's hard to keep a relationship going when you're constantly running around trying to stop bad guys. But, it looks like a new couple might be about to crop up soon, and it's one that fans of the show have been looking forward to for some time. Melinda May and Phil Coulson? Their time may have finally come. According to actor Clark Gregg, things are going to start to get interesting between the two agents.

I'm just going on what I've been reading [in the scripts]. Something is different between them. I don't know, something's going on. They're just a little different with each other and I can't quite figure out what it is. They're either becoming even better friends after all they've been through or, I don't know, I keep feeling like some of these lines are a little flirtatious.

Well, welly, well, well and ooh la la. It looks like Coulson and May are growing closer, and it really isn't a big surprise. Here are two people who are basically the mom and dad of the team they're a part of, and, now, both of them have had some serious experience with being brought back to life. That's a big deal, you guys. Something that two people who already trust, like and respect each other will probably want to lean on the other person for, especially since they now have such unique similar experiences. Not many people who've bitten the dust and then been miraculously revived can say that they have a good friend already in place who shares that with them. It would be kinda crazy if they didn't suddenly start to get even closer than they already were, but, from Clark Gregg's words to EW it looks like they will, indeed, take some solace in each other.

Coulson, of course, had his death, not quite defying experience a few years ago now, after aiding the Avengers on their first team mission. Nick Fury was desperate after his death to bring one of his best agents back, and used super secret tech from operation T.A.H.I.T.I. to revive Coulson after he had been dead for several days. Coulson originally thought he was only dead for a few seconds and that his death was faked to keep the Avengers together, so he's still getting used to the fact that he's only alive because of some very extreme measures.

May, for her part, has had even less time to get used to her death and rebirth. After being exposed to the mysterious apparitions early in the season, May lost her mind, which led to such severe physical symptoms that her eventual death would have been horrible. But, luckily, Simmons and Radcliffe figured out a way to reset her by killing her for a short time and then bringing her back. Yowza. As you can imagine, this realization is really messing with May, and while she's trying her damndest to power through, things are not quite alright with her just yet.

While it will make many a fan's dream come true for Coulson and May to pair off and play house together, this likely won't happen overnight. You can tune in to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. every Tuesday at 10 p.m. EST on ABC to see how this relationship will progress.
