Stranger Things Is Bringing Back One Of Its Best New Characters In Season 3

Erica in her room in Stranger Things 2

Spoilers ahead for Stranger Things 2. If you haven't finished binge watching the new season, beware.

It's been a week since Stranger Things finally released its masterful second season on Netflix. Since then, most hardcore fans have binge watched the series and dissected each frame from The Duffer Brothers' beloved TV series. Aside from bringing back the characters from the first season and expanding the mythos of the universe, Stranger Things 2 (as the Brothers call it) also introduced a handful of engaging new characters. While most fans are obsessed with Sean Astin's Bob and Dacre Montgomery's Billy, there is another newcomer who has already gone viral: Lucas' sister Erica (Priah Ferguson). The Duffer Brothers are tight lipped about the future of Stranger Things, but they've confirmed we'll definitely see more of Erica next season.

There will definitely be more Erica in Season 3. That is the fun thing about the show --- you discover stuff as you're filming. We were able to integrate more of her in, but not as much you want because the story [was] already going. 'We got to use more Erica' --- that was one of the first things we said in the writers' room.

Prepare for Lucas and his friends to be called nerds quite a few more times in the future. Because, per Matt Duffer's comments with Yahoo, Erica is showing back up again in the next season-- hopefully this time getting involved in the supernatural aspect of the series. That, or she can just keep making fun of the boys.

Lucas' sister Erica made her debut in the second episode of the new season, making fun of her brothers' Ghostbusters Halloween costume. She would continue to pop up sporadically throughout the rest of the season, to the chagrin of her older brother. She turned off his walkie talkie and prevented communication with Dustin, and made fun of her brother for not having any female friends. Little did she know that he's hitting it off with the new zoomer Max.

While Erica wasn't essential to Stranger Things 2's plot, she helped keep the series grounded in reality. Because despite alternate dimensions and demodogs, the kids in Stranger Things are also dealing with the struggles of adolescence. This includes crushes, school dances, and Will's bullying. Erica helped remind both the character and the audience that they're still very much in the real world, despite the out of this world plot devices and adventures of the series.

It should be interesting to see how long the families and side characters on Stranger Things remain ignorant of the supernatural elements of the town. Smart money says the jig will eventually be up in the next two seasons. Because the Shadow Monster is pissed, and he's not going to let his temporarily defeat go lightly.

Stranger Things 2 is currently streaming in its entirety on Netflix. Check out our fall premiere list to plan your next binge watch.
