Dave Chappelle Is Saving 2017 By Dropping Two More Comedy Specials On Netflix Instead Of One

Dave Chappelle Equanimity

Can we all agree that 2017 has been a reasonably difficult year? Between the deaths of pop culture icons like Adam West and Tom Petty and significant scandals that have rocked the entertainment industry, it seems safe to say that we can all use a good laugh. Now it appears that Dave Chappelle has heard our collective cries for help because the legendary stand-up comedian is now about to release not one, but two Netflix specials on New Year's Eve.

We already knew that Dave Chappelle was going to release one more Netflix special this year. Titled Dave Chappelle: Equanimity, the live comedy performance was meant to debut on December 31 and usher in 2018 with his typical brand of biting observational humor. We're still going to get Equanimity, but now it appears that Chappelle and Netflix have decided to pair it with another special (titled The Bird Revelation) as a piece of bonus content.

This revelation comes on the heels of a pretty big year for Dave Chappelle. The Half Baked star already released two other stand-up comedy routines on Netflix earlier this year, and both of them have been held up as welcome returns to form for the comedian -- who left the public eye for years after walking away from Chappelle's Show back in 2006. It also builds on a very strong appearance on Saturday Night Live one year ago, clearly showing that the guy wants to come back stronger than ever.

One thing worth noting about The Bird Revelation is the fact that it looks like a considerably smaller and more intimate performance than Equanimity. This makes sense, as Dave Chappelle has continued to consistently perform at smaller venues in the years since he walked away from Chappelle's Show. With both of these specials, audiences are likely going to get two very different and distinct types of Chappelle comedy, and I think that it's safe to say that I officially have my plans for New Year's Eve figured out.
