When Netflix May Start Working On Stranger Things Season 3, According To David Harbour

Hopper and Eleven in Season 2

It's no secret that Netflix's original programming has changed the world of television. Streaming services are now massively popular, and Netflix has quite a few megahits on its hands. One of these is The Duffer Brothers' sci-fi period piece Stranger Things, which celebrated its triumphant second season last October. Stranger Things 2 greatly expanded the world of Hawkins, allowing the characters to grow as the mythos of The Upside Down is revealed. Fans are already clamoring for more episodes, and The Duffers seem to be in the development and writing stages of the third installment. And now we have an idea of when they could start filming, courtesy of David Harbour (aka Hopper):

I've heard rumors that it's supposed to be March or April, but I don't have a confirmation.

As always, the delightful David Harbour is the chatty Cathy of the Stranger Things cast. And while it's not set in stone, it appears that production is aiming to shoot Stranger Things 3 in the early spring of this year.

This news, which comes to us from David Harbour's conversation with Collider, is sure to excite the masses of Stranger Things fans out there. The show has so much heart and excitement, and anticipation for new season is usually at a sky high. Indeed, the year and change wait between the first and second seasons was almost excruciating. But if Stranger Things is filming its third season in just a few months, then perhaps it'll be once again be released in the fall. This would go against Harbour's previous estimation that the series wouldn't return until sometime in 2019.

When Stranger Things debuted in 2016, it quickly became the breakout hit of the summer. But Stranger Things 2 was released to coincide with Halloween, forcing the fans to wait a few extra months beyond a year. While this shouldn't be the end of the world for most shows, the first season's popularity was bonkers, and inspired a countless amount of Halloween costumes the past few years. Luckily, Stranger Things 2 didn't disappoint, building upon the world established in Season 1.

Of course, it makes sense that Netflix and the Stranger Things will want to build on their current momentum. Half of the show's main cast are child actors, who are naturally aging with every passing year. The series has thus far addresses this by utilizing time jumps, but production needs to hustle if they're all going to continue looking age appropriate.

Now the question is exactly what Season 3 of Stranger Things will include, especially for Hopper. With the fan favorite character officially adopting Eleven (aka Jane), he's got a whole new set of responsibilities and attachments to the telekinetic little girl. This will no doubt bring up issues of Hopper's late daughter Sara-- a plot line that's been slowly peeling away over the past two seasons.

Stranger Things's return date is currently unknown. In the meantime, check out our midseason premiere list to plan your next binge watch, and our cancellation list to see if your favorite show got the chop last year.
