One Game Of Thrones Character Whose Fate Probably Won't Be Revealed In Season 8

Edmure in Season 6

It's hard to believe, but we're slowly approaching the end of Game of Thrones. HBO's massively popular fantasy series has shocked and thrilled audiences for seven seasons, but all good things must come to an end. The pressure is on for Game's showrunners to wrap up the myriad stories still very much in the air, and bring the story to a satisfying conclusion. But not every character will have their fate revealed. Namely, it looks like we'll probably not find out what happened to Catelyn's brother Edmure Tully. Actor Tobias Menzies was recently cast as Phillip in Season 3 of Netflix's The Crown, and has revealed that he's yet to get a call from HBO about Edmure. He said,

The honest answer is, I have no idea. He's obviously somewhere in a prison, he's still around alive somewhere. They're pretty stingy with their information and I've not heard anything from them. I feel like they have so many stories to tie up, whether that's a story they'll want to go back to, I don't know.

It looks like poor Edmure likely isn't going to get saved anytime soon, and will likely end Game of Thrones still somehow under the Lannister control. Because while Walder Frey and his family have been taken out Westeros by Arya, there was never another mention of Uncle Edmure.

Edmure had an interesting run on Game of Thrones. He was largely seen as Catelyn Stark's useless brother, unable to even honor their late father during his funeral at sea. Edmure was eventually used as a pawn by Robb, and was paired with one of Walder Frey's daughters in an attempt to quell his anger over his marriage. Ultimately Edmure was the only one to survive the infamous Red Wedding, and was kept as a prisoner by Walder Frey, only popping up briefly in Season 6 after a long absence.

The fans largely assumed that Edmure was kept in The Twins with the Freys indefinitely. But he was neither mentioned nor saved when his niece Arya disguised herself and assassinated Walder Frey, before poisoning all the men in his family. Surely she could have gone down to the dungeon and let the guy free before she left to go hang out with Ed Sheeran? If not, then he's presumably somewhere in a Lannister dungeon, although Casterly Rock was recently taken by Dany's forces. Maybe he's just hanging out with Ellaria Sand and Septa Unella in Cersei's private cell block. Looks like our guess is as good as any.

While Tobias Menzies' comments to Digital Spy are definitely a bummer, the actor has been keeping very busy lately. He's recently been starring in Starz' Outlander, and will now appear on Season 3 of The Crown as Prince Phillip, taking on the role originated by Matt Smith.

Game of Thrones will return to HBO sometime in 2019. In the meantime, check out our midseason premiere list to plan your next binge watch. Plus our Amazon premiere list and superhero premiere list to ensure you don't miss a single episode.
