Lost In Space Renewed For Season 2 At Netflix
The newest adventures of TV's Robinson family will continue, as Netflix has officially announced that it has renewed freshman sci-fi series Lost in Space for a second season. The renewal comes almost a month to the day after Lost in Space Season 1 debuted on the streaming service, which means the company knew there wasn't any danger (Will Robinson) in ordering up a new batch of space-faring episodes.
The streaming giant celebrated its renewal announcement on Lost in Space's Twitter page with a caption accompanied by a short clip filled with graphics, with the Robot's familiar ominous warning to the young Will Robinson. Netflix did not reveal any further details regarding Season 2, such as the episode count or possible plot details. But given that Season 1 had ten lushly produced episodes, it is likely Season 2 will as well. Check out the announcement below.
One of Lost in Space's showrunners, Matt Sazama had previously expressed keen interest in producing a second season, as any good creator does, sharing that he and his fellow showrunner Burk Sharpless had already been working on scripts and developing ideas for future stories. By Netflix confirming Season 2, Sazama and Sharpless' dreams can officially be realized. And viewers are all the better for it.
While ratings for Lost in Space's debut season maybe weren't as strong as some may have hoped, Netflix is obviously happy enough with them to see where the show can go in Season 2. Despite the respectable numbers, Lost in Space hasn't quite transcended into pop culture's zeitgeist the way some of Netflix's other hit shows, such as 13 Reasons Why and Stranger Things, have done. It is not entirely clear why, either, since Lost in Space features science fiction, mysteries and teenagers, elements you will find in both of the other series.
With the series ending Season 1 in a way that could serve as a launching pad for future seasons, it is apparent that Lost in Space was prepared to continue telling more stories. Albeit, not at the expense of the audience getting a complete story during its initial run. As of now, there is no word on when the second season of Lost in Space will debut. Suffice it to say; we will know more when production on the TV reboot gets underway.
