The Mandalorian Chapter 4 Just Gave The Internet A Perfect New Baby Yoda Meme

Baby Yoda in The Mandalorian Chapter 4 Disney+

Spoilers ahead for The Mandalorian Season 1, Episode 4.

Disney+'s The Mandalorian is the gift that keeps on giving. We may not have Baby Yoda stuffed animals yet, but we do have Baby Yoda memes, including a perfect new one served up to the internet courtesy of director Bryce Dallas Howard's Chapter 4, "Sanctuary."

In the Friday, November 29 episode, the Mandalorian (Pedro Pascal) and The Child/The Kid/Baby Yoda head to the planet Sorgon and walk into a pub for some grub. After ordering some broth for the kid, Mando comes across a former Rebel soldier named Cara Dune (Gina Carano).

At first glance, they misunderstand each other's intentions and end up fighting outside the eatery. Just as they are both lying on the ground with blasters pointed at each other, they hear a slurping sound. It's Baby Yoda, slurping his soup, coming outside to see what the fuss was about.

That both sip is now a meme.

The internet was already packed with tea-drinking memes, and Kermit may not appreciate that Baby Yoda is now on his turf. But the great thing about Baby Yoda's soup glare is how many ways you can interpret it:

Here's another one:

And more:

Like any good meme, it applies to almost anything:

People are really going Full Mom for that soup sip.

At any rate, that's something I love about The Mandalorian. In addition to the more serious introspective questions each episode leaves for longtime Star Wars fans -- including plenty for Episode 4 -- there's the silly fun of cooing over Baby Yoda. This new show was perfectly timed to bridge part of the gap in the Star Wars fandom before the Skywalker Saga closes out with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker on December 20.

The good news is it looks like Baby Yoda is sticking around at least until The Mandalorian Season 2, which is now filming. You might've already expected that, but Chapter 4 did try to suggest that Mando was going to leave Baby Yoda behind on the planet. But now they are on the run again. And Pedro Pascal will continue to be "ruthlessly outshined" by his little puppet co-star.

The Mandalorian Season 1, Chapter 4, "Sanctuary" was written by Jon Favreau and directed by Jurassic World's Bryce Dallas Howard. Episode 5, hitting Disney+ December 6, was written and directed by Dave Filoni. There will be eight episodes, or chapters, to Season 1. The internet will need a lot more Baby Yoda content to keep us satisfied until Season 2.

Gina Carbone

Gina grew up in Massachusetts and California in her own version of The Parent Trap. She went to three different middle schools, four high schools, and three universities -- including half a year in Perth, Western Australia. She currently lives in a small town in Maine, the kind Stephen King regularly sets terrible things in, so this may be the last you hear from her.
