Star Trek: Picard Co-Creator Shares Promising Update For Season 2

Star Trek: Picard CBS All Access

Hollywood has been on lockdown for quite some time thanks to stay-at-home orders, which has understandably affected a lot of shows and movies. A lot of plans have changed on when productions will be able to start or resume, and Star Trek: Picard is no exception. Season 2 has been thrown off schedule, but co-creator Akiva Goldsman has given fans reason to be optimistic about when to expect it.

Akiva Goldsman revealed that Star Trek: Picard Season 2 has had its schedule affected by COVID-19. Goldsman told Collider that the show most likely won't start filming as planned, but there is some promising news as well:

We were not shooting. We were to start shooting in late June which, unless the world opens tomorrow, won’t happen I guarantee you. We had broken the season [and] we are about halfway through the writing of it. We will start as soon as we can. Prep will have to resume, and then we’ll start.

It's comforting to hear Star Trek: Picard is looking to get back on schedule as soon as possible, and may mean any delay beyond its originally scheduled release will be minimized. Not that fans would know anyway, as development on Season 2 hasn't progressed enough for a release date to be teased or anything of that nature.

There has been enough done, however, for Akiva Goldsman to feel pretty good about what's happening with Star Trek: Picard Season 2. Though he gave a rather generic and cryptic statement about it, Goldsman has confirmed enough work has been done for he and the staff to have a good idea of where this season is heading and what it's about, and that's thanks in part to Season 1.

We know what it is, and it’s cool, and we’re excited by it. I feel like we learned a lot from Season 1. Of the things I have in my life it is most imminent when the world reopens.

Unlike Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard didn't end by throwing some big cliffhanger at its audience, so it's hard to say with certainty where Season 2 is headed. One thing that is known is that Patrick Stewart has expressed a desire to see most the principal cast of Star Trek: The Next Generation included in some way before the series' end, so fans should expect someone from the Enterprise to appear next season like in Season 1.

Star Trek: Picard Season 1 is currently available to stream on CBS All Access. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for more on the world of Trek, and for the latest news happening in television and movies. For some upcoming viewing options, be sure to check out our summer 2020 premiere schedule.
