Why The Mandalorian’s Giancarlo Esposito Loves Being A Part Of the Star Wars Universe

Giancarlo Esposito The Mandalorian Disney+

The Mandalorian Season 2 is coming soon and, with it, will hopefully come more answers to some of the various stories and elements introduced towards the end of Season 1. Obviously, there's hope for more on Moff Gideon with that reveal he's in possession of the darksaber and, of course, because he's played by the wonderful Giancarlo Esposito.

Esposito is hyped to be a part of the Star Wars universe, especially after his Emmy nomination for "Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series" for his Mandalorian role. TV Insider spoke to the actor about the Disney+ series and what it means for him to be a part of the world of Star Wars:

Yeah, Season 2 is coming out sooner than you know. I love playing in the world of Mando because it's playing in the world with myths. The power of myth and mythology plays a big part in this live action space western, The Mandalorian, and we've never been able to tune in every week and see a show quite like this. So I love that it exemplifies the hero's journey, that's what Mando's journey is. What does he have to give up to protect the child? Why does he protect the child? What does he get from that? I love that he's coupled with this Baby Yoda that he has to be in service to.

Giancarlo Esposito gave some real food for thought ahead of The Mandalorian Season 2, though very little about Moff Gideon. It seems the thing he's really interested in is the dynamic between the bounty hunter and The Child, a relationship that will no doubt be expanded on as Season 2 continues.

That's not to say his role is chopped liver. Giancarlo Esposito had plenty to dote about in regards to his role as Moff Gideon and the overall show he's been blessed to be a part of:

I get a chance to wear a Cape and have a black lightsaber. This is a dynamic world, that I've ventured into, and like so many before me, I feel honored. I feel even better that I'm in this world at the hands of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau who are elevating this storytelling in a new way. It seems like it's a real Western. It's made with this technology that we've never seen before to create the world around us that is very, very specific and has a depth and quality to it that is futuristic. So I feel like this has been a great gift to be in this world with such great partnerships with such great actors.

Giancarlo Esposito seems to be really satisfied with how things are going for The Mandalorian, which is not surprising. The series was one of the top acclaimed shows in 2019 and one of the most universally loved Star Wars entries in the franchise in a while. Hopefully, Season 2 will carry its reputation even further, and maybe even net a few other actors on the cast some Emmy love as well.

The Mandalorian Season 2 is expected to arrive on Disney+ October of 2020. Continue to stick with CinemaBlend for all things related to Star Wars, and for the latest news happening in television and movies.
