The Time Kanye West Lied And Pretended To Be A World Famous Chef To Get A Dinner Reservation

Celebrities, they're just like us. Okay, maybe not all of us have faked being someone important all for the sake of getting a table at a fancy restaurant, but any who have can say they share something in common with Kanye West, who was part of some controversy where a restaurant was duped into believing a celebrity chef was attending so West and others could get a seat with friends at a pretty swanky restaurant.

According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle, a member of Kanye West's team phoned the Nari restaurant in San Francisco for a last-minute reservation. According to owner Pim Techamuanvivit, the caller stated that they'd need a table for 6 for a "table of Noma people," which referenced the prestigious restaurant run by world-renowned Danish chef René Redzepi. Techamuanvivit briefly documented the incident on Twitter and the reaction of the staff when they realized it wasn't Redzepi who arrived.

Pim Techamuanvivit went on to say that while she did rib the table for the lie, the party was ultimately served some of Nari's best dishes. Additionally, everyone was on their best behavior, despite the initial deception to get into the restaurant. That's a relief, at least!

Perhaps the most notable part of this story is that Kanye West, or at least someone on the rapper's team, didn't think he was famous enough to get a table at the San Francisco restaurant. For reference, Kanye West has 30 million followers on Twitter alone as well as wide name recognition for his career, whereas René Redzepi has around 224k followers.

With that said, René Redzepi's restaurant Noma has been consistently ranked as one of the best restaurants in the world since 2006. An argument could be made that Redzepi is the Kanye West of the cooking world, and perhaps he can pay back West by using his name to get into Coachella or something?

This humorous story about Kanye West is a nice change of pace given the recent months of headlines about the rapper and his divorce from Kim Kardashian. There's been much chatter as of late regarding the two's relationship post-split and any new relationships on the horizon. For once, this is just a story about West trying to get a fancy dinner by any means necessary. If I could get away with doing the same, I absolutely would, so more power to him.

Those looking to learn more about René Redzepi can check him out on the Netflix series Ugly Delicious. In fact, there are a lot of great food shows worth checking out on the platform, so be sure to reference our handy guide detailing them to learn about all the wonders of the culinary world.
