HBO Films' Hemingway & Gellhorn stars Academy Award nominee Clive Owen and Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman in the titular roles of Ernest Hemingway and Martha Gellhorn. Billed as an epic motion picture event, the made-for-television movie will explore the tumultuous romance between the two writers that began, endured and ultimately came to an end as the pair covered several historic international conflicts. The nine year marriage that, spanning the Spanish Civil War through World War II, saw the literary legend and pioneering female correspondent create some of the most memorable pieces of war journalism "couldn’t survive was the war between themselves" (from the official synopsis). Here's the second teaser for the HBO film.

After HBO released the first teaser for the film, I commented on how a short preview was perhaps not the best way to showcase an 'epic' event and yet, here the network is with an even shorter look at the upcoming made for television movie. Hemingway & Gellhorn is directed by Philip Kaufman, the Academy Award nominee behind the similarly epic The Right Stuff, and features many interesting stylistic choices and shifts that are sadly not on display in this short tease.

In fact, the only thing the brief preview does a decent job showcasing is the movie star leads but there is so much more going for this project that I'm really looking forward to a more expansive preview. I will say that, while Clive Owen as the unenviable task of following Corey Stoll's turn as Hemingway in Midnight in Paris, Nicole Kidman definitely looks the part and seems like a great choice for Gellhorn. I don't think I've actually looked forward to a Kidman role in, well, a really long time (Moulin Rouge perhaps), so this is an even more intriguing project. Plus, there's also a large ensemble of other award winning actors (not featured in the tease), too bad the network only seems concerned with selling us the stars as Ernest and Martha in the HBO Film.

Hemingway & Gellhorn premieres Monday, May 28 on HBO. It stars Nicole Kidman, Clive Owen, Robert Duvall, David Strathairn, Peter Coyote and Molly Parker. It was directed by Philip Kaufman.
