Hank Moody made his grand return to television tonight as Showtime’s Californication debuted its fifth season. For those of you who didn’t catch it, the pay-cable channel was generous enough to share the season premiere online and you can watch it here.

Showtime didn’t waste any time getting Californication’s premiere episode posted online, which is good news if you don’t have access to a TV and/or Showtime and still want to catch the Season 5 opener. The less than good news is that the video below is edited for a general (more or less) audience, which means swearing, colorful hand gestures and the like have been censored out. Viewer discretion is probably still advised nonetheless. If you want to see the unedited version, you’ll have to catch it on Showtime (a fact Showtime actually points out at least once in the video).

Season 5 of Californication sees writer Hank Moody (David Duchovny) headed back to California after a few years away. A jump forward may be just what the series needs to keep things fresh. For those of you who watched the premiere, what did you think?

Californication airs Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime.
