Monday’s episode of The View was a particularly candid one. After an entire weekend of rumors surrounding a few of the show’s leading ladies, Barbara Walters took the opportunity to address Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s rumored departure and Joy Behar opted to speak out about why she was leaving.

Since Behar’s departure news has been less of a rumor, it’s been pretty clear the host is ready to go. Since she gets to be less secretive about a possible departure, she gave a Letterman-style top ten list of reasons why she will be leaving, with the funniest of these being a joke about not being able to drink on the program. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Walters was particularly serious when discussing the Hasselback rumors.
"There is a particularly false story that keeps getting picked up about Elisabeth's alleged departure, saying that we don't approve of her conservative views. The truth is we love Elisabeth. I like her personally and she's just a wonderful person. But beyond that, we value and appreciate her point of view because Elisabeth helps give the show perspective and balance. So we have no plans for Elisabeth to leave the show."

There’s evidence to support both sides here. While I think it was foolish for certain news outlets to write headlines stating Hasselbeck was leaving rather than rumored to be leaving, Walters’ above quote is not particularly assuring. Sure, Walters says the network and show would love to keep Hasselbeck and that she is also not being forced off the program, but that doesn’t mean she definitely has plans to stick around, either. It just means that should Hasselbeck choose to leave, the decision will be her own.

We’ll let you know in the coming months whether Hasselbeck decides to stay on the program or try her hand at something else.
