Newlyweds Get In The Carpool Lane

Fact: couples who act together stay together. Just ask Ben and J.Lo, or Heath and Michelle, er, okay. Maybe that isn’t actually a Hollywood fact. Hopefully things will work out better for newlyweds Jerry O’Connell and Rebecca Romijn when she guest stars on his new series, Carpoolers.

Carpoolers is a new ABC sitcom created by Kids in the Hall’s Bruce McCulloch. According to E!Online’s Watch with Kristin column, O’Connell plays “Laird, a ladies’ man whose totally un-PC one-liners and devil-may-care charisma steals many a scene in Carpoolers’ pilot.” Not much information has been released about Romijn’s character, other than the fact that’s she’s named “Joannifer.” So that tells you…something, I guess.

This isn’t the first time that the couple has acted together. Last season, O’Connell dropped by Ugly Betty, where Romijn portrays the delightfully bad Alexis Meade. In his episode, he played a jerk who hit on Alexis to win a bet with his friends. Despite their contentious on-screen relationship, the real-life duo’s chemistry made that one of the season’s more memorable episodes. Producers must be hoping a little of the couple’s magic will rub off on their nascent show. But then again, with the imminent premiere of Cavemen, it won’t take much for Carpoolers to be crowned “best sitcom on ABC.”

Carpoolers premieres October 2 on ABC.
