Sarah Michelle Gellar Joins Robin Williams In CBS Comedy Crazy Ones

Things didn't work out so well for Sarah Michelle Gellar's last small screen endeavor, but perhaps a switch to comedy will yield a bit more success. And it certainly doesn't hurt that the pilot in which she's set to co-star also happens to star Robin Williams. In fact, the two will be playing father and daughter in the CBS comedy.
TVLine reports that Gellar has signed on to co-star with Williams in Crazy Ones, a CBS comedy pilot from David E. Kelley. Though there's a family element involved in the set-up, with Gellar set to play Sydney Roberts, the "intense and driven daughter" of Robin Williams' Simon Roberts, this is also a workplace comedy, involving the advertising world.
This is certainly another great bit of casting to add onto previously cast Williams and Political Animals' James Wolk, whom TVLine speculates could be a potential love interest to Gellar's character. Based on her past TV shows (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, All My Children), we're used to seeing Gellar in TV dramas, but things didn't work out so well for her last drama, with The CW's Ringer not surviving past its first season. A switch to comedy might be the right move for the actor. Gellar has demonstrated a great sense of humor in past roles, both on the big and small screen. So it should be interesting to see how she does in a comedy setting, should CBS decide to green light this one to series. Between the cast and Kelley's involvement, it certainly has plenty going for it.
