While Sarah Jessica Parker had a fairly active career in acting long before she went on to portray one of the most fashion-conscious characters on television, it seems fair to say that she’s now most associated with her role as Carrie Bradshaw in the HBO series Sex and the City. Will young actress AnnaSophia Robb be following in Parker’s Manolo Blahnik’s? That may be the case, should things go well for the CW prequel The Carrie Diaries.
Based on Candace Bushnell’s book series, which is a prequel to her previous book Sex and the City, on which the HBO series was based, The Carrie Diaries follows Carrie Bradshaw’s life in the ’80’s, when she was just finishing up high school and beginning to explore the topics of friendship, sex, and romance. According to Deadline, after an extensive search to cast the part of Carrie in the CW pilot for the small screen adaptation of Bushnell’s novel, AnnaSophia Robb has been signed on for the role.
While her name might not be especially familiar (yet, anyway), Robb as appeared in a number of films, including a starring role in Soul Surfer. Robb’s also no stranger to portraying a character adapted from a book. She played Violet Beauregarde in the later film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Given the popularity of the original series, it’s likely that this is one of the more highly anticipated pilots in the works for The CW.
