Star Trek: The Next Generation's First Season Coming To Blu-ray This July

It's been a big day for Star Trek news. If you're a fan and were less than thrilled at the latest dose of fuel thrown on the rumors of Star Trek 2's villain, we've got some news that may be able to cheer you up a bit. After the Next Level Blu-ray sampler set arrived this past January, we knew it was just a matter of time before Star Trek: The Next Generation received the full-season Blu-ray treatment, but there was no concrete date as to when it would happen. That changed today, as CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount have announced a July 24th release date for Star Trek: The Next Generation: Season One on Blu-ray.

Giant Freakin' Robot has posted cover art, which you can see below, as well as a few details of the set's bonus features. The box art is as snazzy as you'd expect, even if it is graced with the tragedy that is Beardless Riker. All of the episodes have been remastered in high-def, with 7.1 DTS HD Master Audio and upgraded special effects, similar to what they did to the Original Series a few years back. The set will also include an array of bonus features, including behind-the-scenes footage, featurettes, bloopers, and interviews with Trek-sperts such as Michael and Denise Okuda, who helped oversee the upgrades to the original episodes.

Next Gen's first season isn't exactly bursting with great episodes, but this is still a set that any die-hard Trekker will want to add to their collection.
