Star Wars TV Series Filmed Down Under

For years there’s been talk of a live action Star Wars TV series and today the rumors that the pre-production of the series will be shot in Australia have been confirmed.

The update was posted today on ScifiTV.com.au that “several inside sources” have confirmed that the Star Wars series is being shot in Australia. The report states, “The quality and style of writing that will be used will be of the highest quality, and local, and writers will be sourced from outside traditional Science Fiction shows. Several big names within the Australian industry (including writers from the Award-winning Love My Way and the Award-winning Secret Life of Us) have been approached by Star Wars uber-producer, Rick McCallum.”

The site describes both mentioned series as having a focus on “relationships and emotional landscapes.” I have to agree with the folks over at fanboy.com in hoping Lucas won’t let the series get too silly or at the very least, keep it more along the lines of the original Star Wars films as opposed to the corny romance-drama we saw in the prequels. That said, shows like Firefly and Battlestar Galactica both managed to balance relationship-drama with science fiction rather well, so we know drama and scifi can blend really well together when done right. Hopefully Star Wars will manage to pull that off just as well.
