Watch Tina Fey Prove How Terrible She Is At Impressions

Tina Fey is a pretty funny lady, but apparently impressions are not a skillset she has. After putting together a truly atrocious Robert De Niro impression during last night’s episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Fey and Jimmy Fallon actually play a pretty funny game of impressions. As we’ve already mentioned Fey is terrible at this activity, so you should know what to expect. But you can check out her hilarious lack of skills, below.

Fey’s first impression is recognizable, at least sort-of, but it’s so hilariously bad that it halfway stumps Fallon, who believes the former 30 Rock star is either doing Matthew McConaughey or Jack Nicholson. Since she is actually doing the latter, it’s not so terrible. However, in the second round, she gets Sofia Vergara and her accent is only recognizable once she pumps up her boobs with her hands. We guess that counts?

We will give her a little credit. After Fallon attempts a Morgan Freeman voice and a couple of other impressions, Fey is given Elmo. Now, a lot of grownups can do an Elmo voice—as evidenced when Alison Brie does the voice in The Five Year Engagement—but at least Fey doesn’t hilariously suck at the Elmo voice as much as she bombs at some of the others in this segment.

Fallon plays a lot of games on his late night series. Some of them have become staples, including “Box of Lies” and “Lip Flip,” but he still manages to pull some stuff out of a hat and make it funny ever now and again. The late night host is great at pulling at people’s strengths, so instead of making Fey attempt the “Wheel of Musical Impressions” game, he just lets her suck adorably at doing regular impressions.

We know not everyone in the world is a Tina Fey fan, but this is one of those endearing celebrity moments that makes me like the comedian a little more. She has to be having a bit of a rough week, anyway, as her new comedy Sisters (with Amy Poehler) is squaring off against Star Wars: The Force Awakens at the box office. I get there may not be a ton of crossover in those audiences, but if I had a new movie coming out, I wouldn’t really like those odds.

You can catch Sisters at the box office this weekend. In the meantime, new episodes of NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET. Oh, and don’t forget that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are hosting Saturday Night Live this weekend, because obviously.
