11 TV Shows Yanked Off The Air Following A Real-Life Scandal

Back in the day, controversial news could be shoved under the rug a bit more, but during the internet age, that’s become nearly impossible, and networks have responded by pulling shows from the channel. Without further ado, here are 11 TV shows that were yanked off the air after a real-life scandal.

MTV Will Continue With Buckwild Despite Numerous Scandals, Cast Member Death

Remember MTV’s Buckwild? It was supposed to be the heir apparent to Jersey Shore, a steamy West Virginia mess about hard drinking and hooking up, but executives decided to pull the plug after several arrests and a cast member death.

The Hook-Up Dating Show Headed To MTV

MTV is busy putting together plenty of original content in the wake of the cancellation of Buckwild. The newest project the network has picked up should be cheap to produce and at least a little familiar for viewers. Called The Hook-Up, the new show will follow people dating one another.

MTV Won't Let Buckwild Continue On Another Network

I can see why Williams would be upset about losing out on a producing credit that could have been a goldmine, but there are better ways to make a point. It seems to me that MTV made a decent decision under tragic circumstances and even gave Williams a shot to negotiate for the property.

Buckwild Producer Reportedly Fuming Over The Show's Cancellation

It was previously reported that MTV had decided to cancel their reality series Buckwild in the wake of the unfortunate death of Shain Gandee, who died in a car accident while mudding with two family members. Given the tragedy, it's not particularly surprising that MTV might decide not to move forward with the series for its planned second season. But producer J.P. Williams is is not happy about it and he's apparently not afraid to voice his opinion either.

MTV Cancels Buckwild Following Shain Gandee's Death

Following the sudden death of star Shain Gandee last week, MTV promptly canceled production on the second season of Buckwild, a "redneck Jersey Shore" reality show that featured yet another group of young people behaving badly in front of the camera. Gandee's death had no apparent connection to the show and was deemed an off-loading accident, but MTV knew they couldn't continue shoving the cameras in these kids faces as they handled a real tragedy… and now they've made the prudent decision to stop doing it entirely

Buckwild Suspends Production Following Shain Gandee's Death

Buckwild, a raucous backwoods alternative to The Jersey Shore, has run into real-life tragedy thanks to the unexpected death of one of its stars, 21-year-old Shain Gandee. While shows like this are pretty much tailor made for their cast to run into trouble, death is on a whole other plane, and understandably, MTV has decided they need to step back before figuring out how to keep the show going, if at all.

Buckwild Renewed For Season 2

It seemed unlikely MTV would be able to find a reality hit to replace Jersey Shore--at least not right away. However, the network put together Buckwild, a raucous program following a group of twentysomethings living in the town of Sissonville, West Virginia, who like to behave wildly via drinking and engaging in plenty of random and sometimes dangerous stunts. The show has been such a success during its Season 1 run that MTV is ordering another round.

Buckwild Brings In Solid Numbers In Jersey Shore's Old Slot

Jersey Shore and the loveable or not so loveable meatballs and GTL obsessives in its cast may be gone forever from MTV—sans reruns, of course—but that doesn’t mean the formerly music-oriented television network wants fans to stop laughing uproariously or cynically at young people living within certain cultural niches in the United States. Last night, MTV premiered Buckwild, and thus far, the show is proving it can fill the Jersey Shore Thursday night slot with pizzaz.

MTV Will Get Buckwild Next January With West Virginia Series

For the last few years, America has watched as MTV has made a spectacle out of a group of self-proclaimed "guidos" and "guidettes" partying at the Jersey Shore. Come January, the network once better known for showcasing music will direct their viewers' attention further south for a series that showcases a group of friends living it up in West Virginia. Check out the trailer for Buckwild ahead.
