The summer slump is finally setting in on the PlayStation Network, meaning gamers will have slimmer pickings to choose from in this week’s batch of new releases. What’s on tap is pretty decent, though, including an updated version of Guacamelee, the new Dynasty Warriors Gundam game, as well as Child of Light for the Vita.
Nothing says summer quite like colorful masks, sinister enemies and a few hundred pile drivers. Action and platforming fans can expect exactly that out of Guacamelee! Super Turbo Championship Edition, the ultimate version of the PS3 and Vita darling now made available on the PlayStation 4. Well, “now,” as in “Sometime Tuesday afternoon when the PlayStation Network enjoys its regularly scheduled weekly update.”
“Guacamelee!…is a Metroidvania-style action-platformer set in a magical world inspired by traditional Mexican culture and folklore,” reads the launch announcement. “Get ready for non-stop fighting action with an extensive move list, including ‘Intenso’ and The Rooster Uppercut.”
This Super Turbo Championship Edition includes new, tougher enemies, new costumes to collect and more. For those who like to battle with a partner, local co-op is also available. And did I mention that you can actually turn into a rooster in order to solve puzzles and reach hidden areas? Because you totally can.
The PlayStation 4 is also getting its very own edition of Puddle this week, a physics-based puzzle game that has you weaving your way through clever contraptions while trying to maintain as much of your liquid mass as humanly (or liquidly?) possible. This one is a cross-buy title so, if you already own Puddle on the PS3 or Vita, then you’ll be able to download it at no extra cost for the PlayStation 4.
Sniper Elite 3 also arrives this week, giving gamers on the PS3 and PS4 an opportunity to camp like a champ and put pullets into their enemies from great distances. Available at retail and as a digital download, Sniper Elite 3 is set in North Africa during 1942. With Germany looking to build a new and unimaginably powerful weapon, your job is to thwart their plans by stalking your targets and putting an end to their plans with a single bullet. Non-linear levels also means you’ll have more choices this time around, allowing the player to come up with their own path to victory.
The PlayStation 3 will also receive a healthy dose of massive robots in Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn this week. With more than 100 playable characters from the Gundam series and literally hundreds of enemies flooding the screen to disassemble your favorite mech, you’ll battle from planet to planet, mowing enemies down by the dozens.
Also hitting the PS3 Tuesday is ConstantC, an intriguing puzzle game that has the player exploring a space station where time is standing still. You’ll be able to control time within a controlled area, creating some clever puzzles you’ll need to solve in order to save the space station and its inhabitants.
Finally, the Vita is only snagging one new offering this week, but it’s a good one. Boasting a whimsical story and graphics that look like they were plucked out of a fairytale novel, Child of Light finally brings its unique brand of RPG goodness to Sony’s portable console.
