A new community trailer was released for the upcoming simulation racer from Slightly Mad Studio, Project CARS. The trailer focuses on the transition from BMW's 1980 classic sports car to the current-day Z class racer. The thing that makes the trailer so amazing is that it's not pre-rendered, it's not PR assets or CGI, it's all footage taken from in the game from actual gamers playing. Awesome.
I love this advent of community representation for developers. It really kicked into high gear with games like Minecraft and DayZ, where the players did the promotion and the players did the marketing. I so love this concept because the games are being presented to the community from a gamer's perspective for other gamers. It's brilliant. This kind of disruptive marketing is probably going to be a pang in the side of big publishers as things like Kickstarter and WMD really kick off. For now, though, you get to enjoy the uber-sexy community trailer for Project CARS made by JonZ, featuring the BMW roadsters, courtesy of DSO Gaming. I'm terribly curious what the scaling process will be for Slightly Mad porting the game from one platform to the next. It appears as if the game is being led on the PC (which probably makes PC gamers salivate at the mouth with fevor) given that the PC version is the only one playable and it's utilizing some absolutely breathtaking features. I imagine from there the game will be scaled for each console, having more or less based on the specs of each platform. Wii U gamers can still hope that the game will translate a lot of the lighting and shader effects currently being used on the PC version given that it's been confirmed that the Wii U is capable of high-end, next-generation gaming. Project CARS is set for release in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii U. You can pledge money to the project now to get early access to the alpha and start playing the game right now, or you can simply learn more by paying a visit to the Official WMD Portal. Back to top
