Resident Evil 6 Battles Zombies President, Announces Release Date

Tonight Capcom officially announced Resident Evil 6. The latest installment in the survival horror series will hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 this fall. A PC version is also in the works.

"Resident Evil 6 portrays a world where an escalation in bioterrorist attacks across the globe has led to widespread fear among the population," says Capcom. "In an attempt to quell the panic and curb the bioterrorist activity the President of the United States has decided to speak to the nation but not before the very location of the address itself comes under attack. With the President's safety compromised the situation for the rest of the world seems hopeless."

"Safety compromised" is an understatement. The trailer shows the President become an infected. Leon Kennedy, one of the protagonists of RE6, is in a stand-off with the zombie prez. The camera cuts away before the shot goes off.

Kennedy and fellow RE vet Chris Redfield star in this global adventure. The trailer shows Kennedy fighting his way through an infected town called Tall Oaks, which seems to be somewhere in the United States. Redfield, meanwhile, is on a mission in China. There's also some footage of two new characters, one male and one female. The male is a mercenary with superhuman abilities.

The end of the trailer provides a release date for the console versions: November 20th.

Update: As a couple readers point out, the blond girl in the last third of the video appears to be Ashley Graham, the daughter of the president. She also starred in Resident Evil 4.
