While video game adaptations are having a moment in Hollywood and certainly leaving their mark on the mainstream, it's been a while since we've had a game capture attention worldwide. Grand Theft Auto VI will change that, as gamers have waited over a decade to see the next installment from Rockstar Games. It's a game so big that a special look at the game is being added to the list of upcoming Netflix releases.
Clear your calendar for August 27th, because those with a Netflix subscription will get an exclusive look at the game beginning at 3 p.m. ET. Details are scant on what exactly we'll see, but I do have a wish list of what I'd like to see and one thing I need before this game's release date on November 19th.
I Want To Know What Celebrity DJs And Radio Stations We Can Expect
Grand Theft Auto has a history of working with a variety of artists to get as much licensed music as possible to make its numerous radio stations sound authentic and expansive. That remains the case with the sixth installment, as previous images teased that the beloved V-Rock station from Vice City will make a comeback. I'm curious if other stations from the past game will still be around in this modern iteration.
Real-life celebrities and comedians are also often used as DJ's for the game. For example, actress and recent Playboy cover star Cara Delevingne was the Non-Stop-Pop FM DJ, and musician Kenny Loggins was the host of Los Santos Rock radio. Grand Theft Auto V was a cultural phenomenon for years after its release, so I would expect some even bigger names to be a part of the sixth game.
I Want To See Gameplay Features That Will Be Unique To GTA VI
Grand Theft Auto VI has been in development for a long time. With close to a decade of work put into the game, I'm expecting at least a few different gameplay features that weren't in the last game. I'm not exactly sure what I need to see, but anything that drastically improves the real-world immersion of playing the game would feel like a plus.
One feature I would love to see return is the dynamic weight-changing feature first introduced in San Andreas. Protagonist CJ's weight would be impacted by what the player fed him and how much he worked out. It was rudimentary at the time, but could be really cool if it was modernized in GTA VI.
I NEED To See GTA VI Bringing In More Multiplayer Social Elements
Grand Theft Auto V brought multiplayer into the franchise, and man, is it a blast. As much fun as I had running around and causing chaos with my friends, there were also times when I'd love to just chill and catch up and not have 8-9 players randomly trying to blow us up in the meantime.
Given Rockstar Games' track record, I would assume there will be several things taken into consideration when it comes to the multiplayer aspect. After all, it was a large part of the reason that the fifth game had such a long shelf life, so I'm sure there will be way more to enjoy with friends.
It's wild that Netflix is securing the rights to an exclusive game reveal, but for those out of the loop, that should speak to just how hyped gamers are about the release. I'm just waiting to see the first week sales numbers when it finally comes out, and how many people mysteriously call in sick after launch day.
