Hero Blend #63: Welcoming Punisher To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

When Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced at San Diego Comic-Con 2010 that Marvel Studios had reacquired the rights to the character Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher, a whole new world of options was opened. Included as a character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the character could leave his previous live-action movies behind and start a new life as an anti-hero contrasting with the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Thor. Obviously it’s been about five years since that announcement, but the House of Ideas is finally coming through with their new incarnation of the fan-favorite character.

It was on Tuesday that Marvel officially announced not only that The Walking Dead’s Jon Bernthal had been cast as the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s version of The Punisher, but also that the character would be making his MCU debut in the second season of the Netflix series Daredevil. It’s currently unknown what kind of role he will be playing in the plot of the show, but there are certainly many options that can be explored.

Joining me to talk about this exciting development is my good friend Roth Cornet from IGN, who is a huge fan of Daredevil’s first season and has many thoughts about how Punisher will be worked into the show. Enjoy Hero Blend #63!
