Immortals TV Spot Emphasizes The Evil That Is Mickey Rourke
The strange thing about Immortals, due in theaters on Nov. 11, is that we’re so focused on the next projects of its main contributors that we sometimes tend to overlook the fact that this movie still hasn’t happened. For star Henry Cavill, we’re busy reporting on his pending stint as Superman in Man of Steel, while for director Tarsem Singh we’re eagerly anticipating Snow White.
Then a clip like this new TV spot drops, and we’re reminded why the savage beast inside all of us likely will be lining up for this gods-and-warriors adventure on opening day to see swords, arrows and Singh’s breathtaking visuals. Here’s a new ad, subtitled “Evil,” courtesy of Viso Trailers. As if you couldn’t tell, this Immortals clip -- like every Immortals clip -- reminds us it’s “from the producers of 300.” But you have to love Mickey Rourke boasting about having plenty of women, and plenty of weapons. Singh’s cinematography is beyond eye-catching and Cavill appears to be emerging as an action hero who demands our attention (take note, Sam Worthington). And while the combat in this short tease is cloaked in more darkness than we have been seeing in previous spots, the machismo is ratcheted up four or five notches. That darkness has me worrying about 3D showings of Immortals, as we’ve discussed how glasses diminish the presentation as is. But audiences will have a choice between 2D and 3D when the film comes out. No matter which dimension, it’s sure to crack some serious skull. |
