Justice League: Part One May Have Found Its Green Lantern, Get The Details

With Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice now in theaters, we begin to look forward to the future. The film very clearly sets up the future of the Justice League in the DCEU – hence its subtitle – but one element remains decidedly absent: Green Lantern. A fundamental aspect of The Justice League, we’ve heard very little about where Warner Bros. plans to take the green-clad space cop. New information has just come forward, and it seems that long rumored actor Tyrese Gibson may have a shot at the role in Justice League: Part One.

Speaking with Larry King on the newsman’s show Larry King Now (h/t ComicBook), Tyrese Gibson explained that he has met with Warner Bros. about the possibility of portraying Green Lantern:

Tyrese: You know, there have been other artists, actors and actresses who have put up images of them as a comic book character and ended up landing a role. So I was like, it's worth giving it a shot.Larry: So, have you heard from Zack Snyder?Tyrese: No.Larry: Maybe he's watching.Tyrese: I did meet with Warner Brothers, though.Larry: And?Tyrese: And...um...shoot me a prayer, Larry.Larry: You got a shot?Tyrese: I do.

So while everything’s in the very early stages, it seems that Tyrese Gibson may very well have a shot at portraying Green Lantern at some point during the DCEU films. The actor has actively campaigned for the role for the better part of a year, and it seems that Warner Bros. has finally caught on. If these talks go well, Justice League Part One could see Gibson donning the iconic power ring to join the ranks of the Justice League.

Of course, at this point we have no idea which of the Green Lanterns Tyrese Gibson has been considered for. Although many would have assumed John Stewart because he is the only known black Green Lantern, Warner Bros. have shown themselves as increasingly willing to cast actors who don’t necessarily look like their comic book counterparts.

Gibson has made a name for himself on screen for playing cocky, somewhat comical characters such as his role as Roman Pearce in the Fast and the Furious franchise, so it remains entirely plausible that he could portray a more arrogant member of the Green Lantern Corps such as Guy Gardner or even Hal Jordan in Justice League Part One.

What do you think about the potential of Tyrese Gibson portraying a member of the Green Lantern Corps? Does he have what it takes to protect Sector 2814? Let us know what you think in the comments and be sure to check out the latest DCEU film, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, which is in theaters now.
