The Razzies Dishonor The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 With 7 Statues
With the world's attention turning to the Oscars, which at least in theory honor the best in the year's films, why not take one quick moment to look toward the worst of the worst. That's the job of the Razzies, the annual awards that skewer the films the Academy wouldn't even get near. And this year, like many years before, the Razzies turned the force of their fury to some sparkly vampires. Nominated in 11 categories, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 won seven statues, including Worst Picture, Worst Director, and Worst Actress for Kristen Stewart.
Here's the full list of winning losers...
They even found a way to honor the bizarre plot twist that had Jacob (Taylor Lautner) falling in love with Bella and Edward's newborn daughter, awarding Worst Couple to Lautner and 12-year-old Mackenzie Foy. You can see the full list of nominees at the Razzies website, and a press release that points out that Adam Sandler actually had a better year this year than the least-- his Jack and Jill swept an unprecedented 10 categories last year, but this year he only took home one statue, as Worst Actor in That's My Boy.
And it wasn't just the "elite" board of Razzies voters who slammed Twilight so badly. One of the 10 categories, Worst Remake/Rip-Off or Sequel, was voted on by users at Rotten Tomatoes-- I have no idea how they considered Breaking Dawn Part 2 worse than The Expendables 2, but I guess that's what happens when you hand the power over to the Internet.
Let us know in the comments what your picks for the Razzies would have been, and of course, catch up on our extensive Oscar coverage to hear more about the best-- well, at least the better-- movies of 2012.
