Rhinos, Goblins And Gwen Hints In Latest The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Trailer
Yet another long trailer for Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 arrived online, giving us more opportunities to see Andrew Garfield’s wise-cracking Web head in action. And there is plenty of action! Watch it above, and we’ll analyze it below.
If you have been paying extremely close attention to the footage Sony Pictures has released in anticipation of the Spidey sequel, you might be disappointed to learn that hardly anything in this new edit is new. It’s hard to reveal more from Webb’s movie when the studio already unleashed this lengthy "Enemies Unite" clip that accompanied its Super Bowl TV spot. I mean, this is a LOT of footage:
Yet, while that sizzle reel focused on the birth of Jamie Foxx’s Electro, this new compilation of familiar footage brings the attention back to OsCorp, which we have proven over the past few months will be the root of all of Peter Parker’s problems in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and beyond.
Naturally, not everyone reading this is as obsessed over Webb’s Spider-Man sequel as, say, this unhealthy fan, so it’s extremely possible that the footage on display in this new trailer will clue them in to the fact that the movie is coming. As mentioned, Electro’s kind of an afterthought in this clip, and we get a lot of Peter, OsCorp, the return of Harry (Dane DeHaan), the Rhino’s road rampage, and hints of the birth of the Goblin. There’s also the exploration into Richard and Mary Parker’s past. And that image of the mysterious end-credits stranger walking past the Doc Ock arms and Vulture wings. Remember when they felt like such a surprise reveal? Now they are part of almost every Spidey 2 marketing blitz. We can practically see The Sinister Six on screen, already.
There are still question to answer in the new Spider-Man movie. Where is that subway car that Peter enters? Buried underground? Who put it there? How does the Rhino get his mech-suit? And my favorite: Dos Gwen live or die? We’ll find out all of that and more when Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in theaters on May 2!
