Back in June, three of the Green Lantern writers, Greg Berlanti, Michael Green and Marc Guggenheim, were given a task: write film treatments for both Green Lantern 2 and The Flash. Then, when the two treatments were completed, they would be given the option to turn one of them into a screenplay. The choice made fans ask themselves a question: would they rather see a quick sequel to what is sure to be one of next summer's major blockbusters or an movie adaptation for a character that has never seen the silver screen. That decision still hasn't been made, but the first treatment has been completed.

Newsarama got the chance to speak with Guggenheim about the projects and he confirmed that the treatment for Flash has been completed and that they will begin work on Green Lantern 2 next. But, with the Green Lantern sequel still in its infancy, he has also confirmed that Green Lantern 3 is not yet in motion because "It would be a quality problem to have to think about a third." He also seems to suggest that The Flash could be another character for trilogy treatment, saying, "I think it's very hard to talk about these characters in a closed-ended, sort of non-sequel way," but clarified by saying that there is nothing planned yet and that they are taking it "one step at a time."

As much as I have been agonizing in wait for the next Batman film, it think it would be wise for Flash get fast tracked over the Green Lantern sequel and my reasoning is simple: since Warner Bros and DC Comics hooked up to make films together, the only characters we've seen on the big screen in the last 20+ years have been Batman, Superman or some variation of the like (i.e. Steel, Catwoman, etc.) Finally they have a third character in motion and it's only going to drive up the demand for more. Then there's the possibility that Green Lantern is a box office flop, which would screw up everything. Don't count your chickens before they hatch, WB. Let Green Lantern do its thing next summer and gear up The Flash to go next in line.
