Wolverine 3 Footage May Drop Soon, Here’s When We Think It Could Arrive

Wolverine 3

With the news regarding the villain of Wolverine 3 hitting with the DVD release of X-Men: Apocalypse people are even more excited to see Hugh Jackman's final turn as the titular mutant, but when will we actually get our first look? While we don't have an exact answer quite yet, it sounds like we'll be seeing the first trailer sooner rather than later, so we have a pretty good idea when that might be.

James Mangold responded to a tweet last month by telling a fan who is anxious to see Wolverine 3 that we will hear and see something very soon. It would stand to reason that the director of the film is referring to a trailer, of either the teaser, or standard, variety. With a release date set for March of 2017, now be just about the right time to start the early marketing of the film with posters and the first trailer. So which movie will you have to go see to check out the trailer on the big screen? There are a few strong possibilities.

Trailers are usually placed in front of films that are similar to the one they are marketing, that way the studio knows they're selling it to the right audience. Generally, studios also put the trailer in front of their own movies, this is a business after all and Fox wants your ticket money as much as everybody else. Fox has two major releases coming this year which could include a comic book action movie in the trailer package. One is Tim Burton's Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children which is hitting theaters at the end of this month. The other is video game adaptation Assassin's Creed at Christmas.

Miss Peregrine isn't unlike an X-Men movie in its own right, dealing as it does with children with extraordinary powers who live together at the same manor. On its face, this might not seem like the right choice for the trailer of a hard-R Wolverine movie, but based on its own trailer, Miss Peregrine looks to have some fairly dark elements, so it may not be quite the kid's movie it at first appears to be. While Assassin's Creed might share a bit more of the same market as Wolverine 3 its release date of December doesn't really put it in the realm of "very soon." There's a good chance that you'll see the Wolverine 3 trailer in front of Assassin's Creed, but it may not be the first place you see it.

There is a third strong possibility for a Wolverine 3 trailer spot and that is November's Doctor Strange. While Wolverine 3 is not a "Marvel movie" per se, it is a Marvel property, and as the last big comic book movie of 2016, there is no more "on the nose" market for Wolverine 3 than those who go see Doctor Strange. Seeing a Fox trailer in front of a Marvel film is hardly unheard of. Many of you probably saw a trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse in front of Captain America: Civil War.

Will you be more excited to see one of these three movies, or the Wolverine 3 trailer in front of one of them? Let us know in the comments below.
