Rihanna's Diamonds Tops The Billboard Hot 100 Chart
Rihanna’s “Diamonds,” the newest single off of the singer’s 7th studio album, Unapologetic, has been rising in the Billboard music charts from week to week. Right before the Thanksgiving holiday, the song busted over the hump and hit number one on the Hot 100 charts. That’s a victory for the song, but also marks a momentous occasion for the pop star, as well.
Maroon 5’s “One More Night” has topped the charts for the past nine weeks. Unfortunately, that band couldn’t hold on for one more second, much less one more night, and “Diamonds” capably slid into the number 1 Billboard spot, as predicted by the outlet. “Diamonds” marks the twelfth single Rihanna has topped the charts with, a number that ties her with Madonna and The Supremes at the number four position on most songs ever hitting that mark.
Number four is pretty impressive, but the 24-year old pop singer still has a ways to go to beat Madonna, much less the people occupying the top three slots. In case you are wondering, The Beatles take the highest honor, with 20 songs topping the Hot 100 chart. Mariah Carey—Yes, there was a period when people really gave a crap—comes in second with 18 hits, and Michael Jackson rounds out the category with 13 chart-topping hits. The point being, Rihanna’s doing really well, especially for her youthful age, but she still has a ways to go if she wants to play with some of the biggest boys.
