Two co-dependent high school seniors (Hill and Cera) are forced to deal with separation anxiety after their plan to stage a booze-soaked party goes awry.

If you’re wondering who Jonah Hill is, he’s the guy who wanted you to ask him about his wiener in Accepted. If this takes off, maybe he can finally be known as something other than the guy in the hotdog outfit, which no doubt would be a great relief to him, and a great relief to me since I think Hill is actually pretty talented.

Jonah Hill co-stars in Superbad with former ‘Arrested Development’ alum Michael Cera. If you don’t recognize him, that’s probably because you’re in the vast majority of people who just didn’t think ‘Arrested Development’ was all that funny, and so refused to support it. I’m on your side on this one America.

With all the talent Superbad has involved, it has to be at least sort of good, doesn’t it? The script is co-written by Seth Rogen, who was one of Steve Carrell’s hilarious friends in The 40-Year-Old Virgin and who in the summer 2006 is going to kill as the star of Knocked Up. It’s produced by Judd Apatow, who can only be described as the Hercules of brilliant, meaningful comedy. Where Apatow and Rogen goes, I will follow.

Yep, Superbad has just about everything right going for it… except the premise which sounds like an idea for a direct-to-DVD Bachelor Party or some other random 80s movie about excessive partying. The trailers however, make the movie look like there’s more to it than just another teen partying flick, and if that’s the case Superbad could be a big hit late this summer.

    WTF???

  1. edd Says:

WTF? AD was the best sitcom to come from the US for years - literally since Seinfeld. You have lost all my respect for that comment.
Seriously, you need to watch it again and properly if you disagree.

  1. Josh T Says:

No Edd, I will not join your cult.

There's a reason Arrested Development got terrible ratings and was canceled ... and it wasn't because it didn't get a chance to find an audience. Viewers were given chance after chance to discover it and like it, and apparently America decided no thanks.

It just wasn't as great as people make it out to be. A shame it got so many chances while truly great shows like Freaks & Geeks got canceled before they really have a shot to find an audience.

  1. fruitdog Says:

Damn right. The ratings sucked therefore it sucked. Programs like Dancing With the Stars, American Idol, The Hallmark Movie of the Week and Deal or No Deal are the pinnacle of Television because their ratings are good. America knows good and the rest of the clowns on TV need to recognize that the viewers are never wrong.

  1. Lilapalooza Says:

Who cares what "America" or whatever sample group chosen decided about AD. That show was well written and had an amazing cast. I agree with fruitdog in that some of the shows "America" does seem to love (apparently the ones that don't get cancelled after 2 seasons) don't do much to prove that it knows what good TV is. Anyway, FOX doesn't know anything... they cancelled "The Family Guy" before great DVD sales made them reconsider and bring the show back. And AD DVD sales have also been really great...

  1. Bryan Says:

Arrested Development was probably one of the funniest shows ever. From my experience, the people that do not find the show funny are ones who enjoy only low brow stupid comedy, and frankly weren't smart enough to pick up on all of the jokes. I do enjoy stupid comedies, but Arrested Development was head and shoulders above any show that I have ever seen.

The truth is that most people need canned laughter to tell them what is funny and therefore don't enjoy a show like Arrested Development where you need to pick up on the sarcasm and subtle jokes that the show contains.

  1. Dan I Says:

Two and a half Men gets killer ratings. Does that make that piece of poop a good show?

  1. Bruno Says:

There's a reason millions of Americans didn't like Arrested Development. The average IQ is 100. That's not gonna be high enough to "get" any of the jokes on a show like that. It was aimed way over their (and apparently this reviewer's) heads. The creator as much as said before it aired that he didn't hold much hope for it drawing a big enough audience.

Often popular is not the same as good. That's why scat like American Idol rules the ratings. And "Laverne and Shirley was #1 for a while in the 80's.

  1. Tim Says:

In a sense, the show's failure owes less to its being too "smart" and more to the complex interweaving storylines. So much happens in every episode - probably twice as much as in any other 22-minute sitcom - and so you need to know what's going on. There's really no preponderance of "high-brow" humor; it's just low-brow but subtle. Tobias' gayness, Gob's stupidity, Lindsay's self-centeredness, Lucille's alcoholic heartlessness, George Michael's extreme awkwardness... these aren't difficult things to understand and laugh at, but I do think *America* as a whole is much too impatient for this sort of show. It doesn't take a high IQ to enjoy AD, but it takes a willingness to get into the groove of it. Once in the groove, I discovered that it was, hands down, the funniest show that I've ever seen.

Michael Cera is going to be amazing in Superbad. I'm really surprised I'm this excited for the film; I usually don't like movies too much like this, but this one's gonna be golden.

  1. Dusty Says:

I saw this movie last night and I must say that it is the funniest movie i have seen in years

  1. boyonthedock Says:

I watched arrested development on tv off and on in its run. I thought it was ok. Then I watched it on DVD, and its one of the best shows ever. Being able to see all the episodes lets the hundred of in-series jokes become much more obvious. If you only casually watched this show, It was impossible to enjoy as much as being a rabid fan of it. The fault was not with it being to smart per se, but the self reference and hypercomplex plot did have something to do with it.

  1. thomas Says:

    one word about AD: Tobias.
    nuff said.
