Metcalfe And Gonzalo Cast In Dallas Pilot

Two more actors have signed on for the Dallas pilot and looking at the photos of the people signed on for this show, I’m starting to see a pattern here: They’re all really, ridiculously good looking.

The Dallas spinoff is created by Cynthia Cidre (Cane) and follows the offspring of the original series’ main characters. Following the news of Jordana Brewster being cast in the pilot, Deadline reported today that Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives) and Julie Gonzalo (Veronica Mars, Eli stone) are also joining the cast. Metcalfe is set to play Christopher, the cousin of J.R.’s son John Ross (Josh Henderson). Christopher and John apparently disagree on the direction of the Ewing dynasty. Gonzalo is set to play Rebecca, Christopher’s fiancée.

Going back to the really, ridiculously good-looking appearance of the cast, this is not to say that other scripted TV shows don’t have pretty casts. However, there’s a certain polished look to the people signed on for this pilot that, mixed with the premise (and what I know of the original series), is making Dallas look very soap-opera-esque to me. If it weren’t airing on TNT or some other similar cable channel, I might predict that this show turns out to be a barely-updated version of the original that only appeals to people who’ve been waiting for Patrick Duffy to return to a regular primetime TV role since Step By Step went off the air. However, looking at TNT’s other original programming (The Closer, Southland, Rizzoli & Isles), I’m hoping Dallas delivers more than your typical primetime soap.
