Stefon Returns To Saturday Night Live's Weekend Update For A Dramatic Segment With Seth Meyers
Not only did last night's episode of Saturday Night Live mark the end of the season for the long-running sketch comedy series, but it also marked the end of Bill Hader's eight-year-run as a regular on the show. So it wasn't entirely surprising that Hader appeared as his beloved, chatty character Stefon for one last visit to "Weekend Update." But he did turn the appearance into a big celebration, which included a wedding and a dramatic attempt to stop it.
Anderson Cooper was Stefon's groom for the most outlandish wedding TV's seen in a while. Given what we know of Stefon's preference for bizarre nightlife in New York City, we should have expected nothing less from the commentator's planned nuptials. Determined to stop the wedding was a remorseful Seth Meyers, who did manage to interrupt the affair, throw down with Cooper and whisk Stefon back to the studio, where some of the other beloved recurring "Weekend Update" characters were there to give him a proper send-off.
While it was confirmed that Hader is leaving SNL after this season - and sorry folks, their won't be a Stefon movie - I doubt we've seen the last of Hader or Stefon on SNL. Amy Poehler's surprise appearance on "Weekend Update" is a perfect example that proves gone isn't forever. So hopefully he'll be back for a surprise visit sometime. In the meantime, Hader will be missed and remembered well as one of the funnier cast members on the series in recent years.
