Three Networks Pick Up Projects From CSI Showrunner: Cops, Angels And A Witch Too.

CSI showrunner Carol Mendelsohn is a busy lady, these days. She’s got her fingers in three different network pies with projects sold to FX, CW and CBS Deadline reports. Oh, and a pilot order from TNT, so make that four pies. That’s a lot of pie. Among the new projects are several cop dramas – Mendelsohn’s old standby – and a couple of projects with a supernatural touch.

Three of the new projects have landed at CBS, two of them cop dramas and the other not far off – an FBI profiler drama. The Murder Room is based on the true story of a profiler and investigator for the FBI who has solved the unsolvable crimes. Next up is Two Badges, based on a book about a female police detective whose husband is a gangbanger doing time for murder and finds herself trapped between the world she comes from and the world she chose as a detective. Finally, CBS has picked up Widow Detective about a detective who becomes a surrogate father and husband to the families of his three partners all killed in the line of duty. Sounds like a decent storyline, but I hope they’ll rethink the show’s name.

Over at the CW, Mendelsohn has the supernatural drama Unearthly based on the novel about a girl who believes she is destined to be an angel. Also sold to the CW is The Hollows which is based on the bestselling series of books. The storyline follows a witch who is also a private investigator helping local law enforcement to solve crimes.

FX has picked up another cop drama, Throwdown Gun which is about two cops, one black and one white, who become forever connected after they are both involved in the cover up of a crime that has major ramifications for race relations in Los Angeles. Meanwhile TNT has ordered a pilot for Scent of the Missing, which stars Tricia Helfer and follows a search and rescue team member who works with a golden retriever and gets high on the adrenaline of her job.

Brief descriptions of projects like these can be either really interesting or leave me wondering who on earth would put that on television; I am pretty sure I know where I fall on this list of new series. An angel, really? Well, I was wrong about Drop Dead Diva, so it could happen again.
