Disney Opens The Vault And Brings Dumbo To Blu-Ray

Once again the gatekeepers at the House of Mouse have thrown open the ponderous doors of the Disney vault and brought forth a new treasure. And this time, it's a movie about a flying elephant. Yes, Dumbo is fast approaching its 70th anniversary, and so Disney has sent out word that the airborne pachyderm is headed for high-definition. And somewhere, my wife just began doing a silly little dance of joy.

Damages Brings The Third Season You Probably Didn't See To DVD This July

One of these days, I'm going to catch up on Damages, I swear. It's been critically acclaimed. It stars Glenn Freakin' Close. By all accounts, it is a consistently amazing show. Hell, I've had the show's first two seasons sitting in my Netflix queue for months. And yet, I've never seen an episode. And I'm not alone here, since the show nearly died after its second season, until DirecTV swooped in for a rescue, just as they had before with the also-awesome Friday Night Lights. Now the show's third season is coming to DVD, and I'm really running out of excuses.

Controversial Kennedys Miniseries Coming To DVD May 15th

The Kennedys miniseries was originally due to premiere on the History Channel before the network backed out earlier this year. Eventually, the show found a new home at ReelzChannel, which left interested audience members both relieved and surprised to learn there was a thing called ReelzChannel.

For Those Who Care, Boondock Saints Is Getting A New Blu-Ray

The Boondock Saints is getting a new Blu-ray release this summer. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced a June 14th street date for the two-disc The Boondock Saints (Truth and Justice Edition). It will include both the R-rated and unrated director's cut of the flick, plus a bunch of bonus features

Paramount Sends In The Clones As The Island Hits Blu-Ray

Blu-ray is an amazing format. Honestly, once you've seen your favorite movies in high-definition, it's hard to go back to regular DVDs. Something always just feels like it's missing. But while high-definition can easily make an awesome movie even better, can high-definition make a crappy movie tolerable? That's a question that can be put to the test on June 21st, when Paramount Home Entertainment releases Michael Bay's futuristic thriller The Island on Blu-ray.

The Blu-Ray Clockwork Orange Trailer Is Gorgeousness And Gorgeousity Made Flesh

How about watching this rather awesome trailer for the Clockwork Orange Blu-ray release. It's a slick reminder of why Clockwork has earned a cult following over the years, and it's rather entertaining in its own right, I don't mind saying. Pin your eyelids open, put on a little Ludwig Van, and pull up a chair...

Season Of The Witch DVD Will Turn You Into A Newt This June

Nic Cage has released plenty of bad movies over the course of career, but these past few years he seems to have established a new tradition of clustering them during the first few months of the year. Ghost Rider? Bad Nic Cage, came out in February. Bad Lieutenant? Good Nic Cage, came out in November. Kick-Ass? Goofy but awesome Cage, came out in April. Sure, this might be simply a case of bad movies naturally flocking to the cinematic hospice that is January and February, but I like to think it's intentional.

Amazon Robs From The Rich And Discounts Robin Hood: The Complete Series

BBC Week continues over at Amazon, with today's Gold Box Deal offering up a modern take on Robin of Sherwood that doesn't star Russell Crowe and never features an army of urchins riding to battle on very small horses. Yes, Amazon has discounted the entire run of the recent BBC Robin Hood series 58%, knocking the price down to a mere $41.99 for three seasons of arrow-knocking.

Smallville The Complete Collection Coming This Fall

With Smallville just a few weeks away from wrapping up its 10-year run, it was inevitable that we'd be getting some sort of complete series set sooner or later. Well, "sooner or later" turns out to mean "sometime this fall." TV Guide has the exclusive news about the set, which will pack every episode onto 62 freaking discs. Great Caesar's ghost!

Surprise: DirecTV May Be Planning Netflix-Like Streaming Service

Amongst the usual questions about subscriber usage and whatnot, the survey also includes a section asking customers to "evaluate a new service that DirecTV is thinking about offering to their customers." That service is described as a "streaming-only...service for a flat fee per month." They even specifically describe this new service as "Netflix-like."

Amazon Has A Righteous Deal On The Vicar Of Dibley Today

With the so-called Royal Wedding eating up the 24-hour news cycle in preparation for the event itself later this week, you're probably either 1) completely sick of all things British, or 2) reading this while wearing a souvenir "Will + Kate 4 Evar" t-shirt. Either way, let's come together and celebrate the good things the folks across the pond have given over the years, things more entertaining than one very rich and lucky person marrying another. Things like British comedies.

American: The Bill Hicks Story Will Come With 5 Hours Of Bonus Footage

American: The Bill Hicks Story is finally getting some royal treatment with a worldwide Blu-Ray and DVD Release on June 7th. It seemed like it might never get what it deserved, but after a couple of years of steadily growing buzz, the documentary will be brought to European, Canadian, and American homes through a partnership with BBC Worldwide and Warner Home Video.

NHL Stanley Cup Champions 2011 To Be Hastily Thrown On DVD

No matter which team wins the final, Warner Bros. is bringing NHL Stanley Cup Champions 2011 to Blu-Ray and DVD on July 19th. This is an incredibly quick turnover for a film of this ilk, since game seven of the final series would fall on June 17th. In past years, the video's creator, Warner Sports, has focused more on the final series rather than offering a fully encompassing look at a team’s entire championship run.

Watch The Third Episode Of Mortal Kombat: Legacy

The new episode of Mortal Kombat: Legacy just dropped, and it's certainly well worth a view, at least for any of you with positive memories of the video game franchise

Here's what's FlixWorthy this week, kids.

The Warriors Way Is To Buy This DVD

James Cameron And Peter Jackson Take Issue With Earlier VOD Window

The National Association of Theater Owners (not to be confused with that other NATO) put out an open letter calling out studios over the practice of making first-run movies available over VOD while still in theaters. Among the big names signing off on the letter: James Cameron, Peter Jackson, Guillermo del Toro, Michael Bay, Brett Ratner, Robert Rodriguez, and Kathryn Bigelow.

Dish Network Trumps Netflix With HBO And Cinemax Programming

Netflix subscribers have been able to watch shows from networks such as Showtime and Starz in the past, but anyone hoping to revisit The Sopranos or Deadwood has had to rent them on physical media. Now the competition over at Dish Network has scored a coup by partnering with HBO and Cinemax to provide its subscribers with their content via the streaming services HBO Go and Max Go.

Critically Praised But Underseen Cedar Rapids Ready To Impress In June

It’s not too late to see Cedar Rapids. The film will be hitting Blu-Ray and DVD on June 21st. You can’t get the whole popcorn-and-feet-on-the-chair-in-front-of-you experience, but Fox Home Entertainment is trying hard to make your viewing as memorable as possible. They’ve even piled on a ton of special features to lure you in.
